  • Knife recomendation?

Wasn't really sure who to ask, so I thought I'd try CV6.

A little while ago my 2 friends and I decided to take public transportation downtown to save on gas. On the way back we ran into some trouble. To make a long story short we ended up running the hell away from 8 guys with a couple of lead pipes and went home with a couple of bruises (nothing serious, we sure as crap weren't looking for a fight so we got out of there pretty quickly and they let us go). Anyway, it could have turned out a lot worse and I've decided a knife might be a pretty sound investment. I'm not looking for a machete or anything, just something I could easily carry and would perform reliably if needed.

    Criteria:
-probably a fixed blade, for speed. If its folded, it better deploy hella fast. I'm reasonable sure automatics are illegal where I live, though I don't think its too big of a deal
-between 4 and 6 inch blade (or so)
-doesn't have to be durable, but does need to be reliable
-cheapish. I'm not made of money (sub $50)

I'll probably check the pawn shop later this week, but I haven't handled a knife extensively, except for the swiss army variety, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Suggestions?

I'm pretty sure automatics are illegal anywhere unless you're military or police or something like that. Fixed blades may be cool but they're no fun to carry around, especially if you want one with a blade that big.

I have a folded Beretta, blade is 3.5", a flick of your wrist with your thumb on the little knobby thing flips it open. You can carry it around clipped to your pocket and its light. Any sporting goods store will sell you these things...or the internet.

Word of caution though, although sometimes having a knife might get you out of a tough spot pulling one out might make the situation worse. If instead of running away from eight guys you whipped out a knife on them you might not have escaped with just a few bruises.

yeah, I know what you mean on the about that. A knife is definitely a last resort weapon. Also not for intimidation...thats a stupid mistake people make.

taser would be nice, probably not something I can afford

I carry a box cutter on me at all times.
                http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...10000003+90401

Got mine for 7 bucks, got 10 free blades with it.
                Folds very easily.

I needed it for my job, got used to using, handleing and storing it, and found out how useful it can be.

If need be, I can use it as a last ditch effort.

Actually, look around at gun shops. I found a taser for my sister for $60. Also lots of powerful mace. If you get a taser get ATLEAST 250,000 volts. I've tased myself at 100,000 and it didn't do much. The reason I tased myself (before anyone asks) is because I plan on going into the police academy and wanted to see what that part would be like.

Knives aren't going to do a whole lot honestly, they're a last resort weapon that a lot of people know how to counter and are only good for when you're already close enough to the attacker that something has already happened to you. You're talking about your safety. Save up, buy a 9 mm or .40.

You do know how to use a knife in a fight right? If not, then you'r gonna be screwed over by the first guy you pull it on that knows what to do about it. I would get a taser anyways, just seems more fun to watch someone twitch on the ground than bleed to death.

Just go with pepper spray. Nothing like seeing grown men cry from some spray.

Don't bring a knife unless you damn well plan on using it. If not, they will likely use it on you.

I like the pepper spray or taser ideas.

There was an infomercial on the other night about an ultra-light blinking flashlight to blind attackers. try that!
