    Re: Chevelle start

The 8.5 10 bolt can be built to hold 500hp no problem. If you have the 8.2 however, the first time that car hooks, its toast. A stock 9 inch is a little stronger than a 12bolt, but its also heavier and uses more hp to turn. Unless you swap gears often, get a 12 bolt. Either rear will do, but with 500hp, a 12 bolt will be fine. I put a moser 12 bolt in my 69 camaro behind a 425hp small block and I have no worries at all. I personally don't trust ebay for anything, but check around for deals on trannys. My bother put a Art Carr 200R4 in his 72 Nova. That tranny is rated for 750hp and the overdrive is nice on the highway.

      Re: Chevelle start

the GM 12 bolt rear ends were in fact STRONGER stock for stock with a ford 9"

its just that the ford 9" can be MADE to be much stronger then a 12 bolt

what are your specs? and i really hope that is a roller cam..

by the way sounds nice. how big is your cam? I just put Trickflow 195cc heads on my .060 over 350. My cam specs at 228I/234E duration and .480I/.490E lift at .050 and is no where near as lumpy as your small block.

his timing is way too far retarded

once he advances it to around 14* initial it will sound much smoother

Not sure if it is a roller cam or not. the guy that had the engine built for him did not remember anything about the cam. Why does it have to be a roller cam?

One reason it was so lumpy in that video, is that the idle was at 500, it is now 8-900.
              The timming is still off

because roller cams dont have to be broken in, hydraulic/solid flat tappet cams do

if that was the first start of your engine, i would suggest looking at buying a new cam if it isnt a roller, you dont want to have all of your lobes flattened

                  Re: Chevelle start

When I bought the engine it had 1,000 miles on it. It was the first startup in this car.
