Seems like alot of the knowlegable guys are takin off/not posting, the site doesnt seem to be as helpful to people as it used to be (I read alot on here before I ever signed up and posted)
I think a canadian section is only fair. We have sections for different places in the US, and to be honest it's kind of discriminatory...
I agree with the sig comment. You shouldn't have to be a supporter, BUT it is ten bucks and we are non-profit...so it's not make or break....just helps keep the site going. Its a catch 22.
I've offered countless times to be a mod anywhere they need one. I think there are plenty of people on here who can vouch for my tech ability and knowledge.
and kristen.... you're in charge of recruiting chicks. more girls have to own f-body's and want to mod them before they will come participate in a forum....
A new and updated layout would be nice. The forums are 3.6.8, which is an old and outdated version (July of last year).
Besides that, I understand where the admins are coming from. When you run a major site, especially one that isn't giving anything in return and is just providing a service, you sometimes tire of it.
If the admins really don't want to do much, I can recommend what I did for my forums when they grew more than I could handle.
First, we spoke to the people at ibiblio. They'll host you for free as long as you're a not-for-profit site and are providing a service to people. http://www.ibiblio.org/ The only catch is that you have to put a little 'hosted by ibiblio' icon somewhere on your page, but it's very non-intrusive. Here it is on my forums: http://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?
Besides that, they maintain the server and make sure everything is up to date. It removes a lot of work from your hands so you can focus on what you want. If you want to disappear for a while, you don't have to worry about the server becoming out of date since they maintain it. They give you plenty of database and webspace as well, so you don't have to worry about being able to add/do what you want.
This is great for both you and the members because not only do you not have to pay for hosting anymore, but your members don't have to pay $10 to get features that people get for free on most other forums.
After I got the forums moved over there, I worked on adding more mods to the site. I picked people that were long time active members of the community. I let them each pick forums that interested them instead of the entire site.
I moved over a lot of our stuff to the wiki and got a complete other team to maintain it. I don't do anything for it and it's worked out great. I really recommend moving the *database sections over to a Wiki since it could be a lot more organized. Also, when it's all in one place, you don't have to worry about fortunecity pulling down the t-top modifications guide or someone elses site going down.
Finally, add more site administrators. Definitely people you can trust because you're going to want them to watch over the site while you're gone.
Do all that and the site will seriously run itself. You'll still own the domain, so you dont have to worry about having that taken away from you from under your feet.
Anyway, that's my advice. It worked for me and has made maintaining my forums a breeze.
there are a lot of search nazis whenever someone posts a problem.
the problem with this is, when you do search, a lot of threads are only half finished, leaving off with more unanswered questions.
i think it would be a great resource to compile common problems, and uncommon ones, with solutions, into an easier to use wiki type deal, just like dangerz said.

I don't see a problem with "search nazis". These cars are 6 years removed from the new car lots. This site has been around longer than that. I'm pretty sure if there has been problem, it has been covered. There shouldn't be too much new to be asked except maybe custom FI questions and maybe how to prevent rust ones ; ). I have always liked this site, that's why I still check back often and consider another Fbody. I think there are just too young whiners. It sucks cars have to depreciate so much that any 16 year old can afford them now. Little ones just search and grow up.

I think notsonic made a good point in that you rarely find threads that are answered. Usually they're just half-answers. You have 10 people saying "IM GONNA DO THE TTOP CONVERSION AND TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEO AND POST IT FOR YOU GUYS" and 1 person actually half doing it.
overall the site is in a lull right now because there haven't been any new v6 f-bodies in 6 years, things will change as the new camaro comes out and there will (hopefully) be a whole new group of questions and enthuasists.
Also as stated most things have been addressed at some point. I have been on here since 01 and have even recently asked a question to which a search might have given me at least part of the answer.
The fact is there hasn't been any aftermarket development done in quite some time and many of us are reaching the point where we are running into more maintenance fix/repair than mod stuff and let's face it that is really kinda boring.
Also you gotta remember that 8 years ago most people on this site had jobs because these cars were new (or nearly new) as they age they are passed to younger less experienced drivers. This changes the nature of the discussions.
for those of you that want the information reorganized (archived for searching if you will) go do it, do searches on common themes organize the information. It's just a matter of copy and paste and a ton of time but if that's what you think the site needs get out there and get after it. I'm sure the owners would be up to adding this more organized info to the tech specs or mod encyclopedia section.
I think the owners are really sitting and waiting to see what the reaction to the new camaro will be. Personally I see it reviving much of the site if this is where the new owners come vs one of the other V6 sites.
Finally when this site came out it was really the ONLY place to get good info on these cars, since then there have been several other v6/3800II sites pop up. As new models come out sites pop up immediately. There are probably 3 or 4 decent G8 sites out there right now. With that kind of "diversity" it's a much tougher "market" for a site like this.
Ok I got off on a tangent. Personally I say leave everything like it is, there will be an infusion of new blood in the near future and you never know it will likely revive things.

I wish people would leave their personal issues with other members at the door and stop bringing them into this forum. I'm tired of hearing it. The last couple days especially it's been a b!tchfest around here (this thread included).
If I may quote from our board rules...
"If you have a personal problem with a member, please e-mail that member privately. Personal arguments on the board are not tolerated under any circumstances. If you are not mature enough to handle dealing with that member on the board in a civilized fashion then chances are you are not mature enough to post on the board in the first place. No, you're not going to get along with everyone--deal with it."
well the plus is at least this is powered by Vbulletin (even though its out dated version we have)
and you can already make the layout blue or green.. and you guys want more to choose from? jeez.... /sarcasm
The forum seems like it made this site.. but i think the writeups should be posted off the forum ONTO the site..
I think we do need a new banner, the new camaro is coming up so hopefully this site will see some major changes. Because of that new members are really gonna start coming in here soon. We will finally have something new to talk about. Everything has already been troubleshooted and done with these 4th gens.
