    Re: The Complaint Thread

The new Camaro is all the more reason to better organize everything. There's going to be a ton of new info, so things should be solid so this site can stay the center hub. Especially considering the major models for the new Camaro will be the v6's.

Someone above said that if you want stuff done, do it. So I have. I ordered cv6wiki.com and hosted it on one of my dedicated servers. I'll install a wiki after work tonight and I'll go through and add the guides to the wiki. Once things are set up, I can use my contacts at ibiblio and have them host the site for free for us and we won't ever have to worry about losing the information. If anyone wants to help add the information there, it'd be appreciated.

i disagree with most people on here. i think the layout is fine. its good simple. i hate sites that have too much going on on the page, its annoying. its better and easier to navigate without getting a headache this way. i say keep it the way it is.

Yeah i like the layout as well, i like the large clean view of the forum, but i think it would be safe to add some custom themes and colors. Its not that hard to do, but i think the default should be this green, just because it works fine. The feature is only for people wanting smthing different.

If I may quote from our board rules...

"If you have a personal problem with a member, please e-mail that member privately. Personal arguments on the board are not tolerated under any circumstances. If you are not mature enough to handle dealing with that member on the board in a civilized fashion then chances are you are not mature enough to post on the board in the first place. No, you're not going to get along with everyone--deal with it."

          EXACTLY.

            Re: The Complaint Thread

Fu(k the people hating on search nazi's. I came to forums about 4 years ago. I didn't even know what an fbody was till I searched on google, and found fbody.com (the forum I post most on). I have learned EVERYTHING I know (and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable now, by browsing around on a rainy day. You can find ANYTHING by searching, it just takes a minute. Answering the same questions constantly gets old, and causes people (vet's) to get frustrated. This then drives away the people that are knowledgeable!

And fu(k all of the groups. It is a bunch of homoerotic cliques. I don't care if you have a hamster fetish, don't bring it to a car site... No one cares about it! (Yes, personal attack, sue me!)

And ban mogobs please. Hes a gay union lover who doesn't understand that unibrows are BADASS!

"there are a lot of search nazis whenever someone posts a problem.

the problem with this is, when you do search, a lot of threads are only half finished, leaving off with more unanswered questions.

i think it would be a great resource to compile common problems, and uncommon ones, with solutions, into an easier to use wiki type deal, just like dangerz said"

I agree, this can be a problem. Even though there may be a ton of threads on a topic, a lot of times the threads consist of one poster asking a question that goes unanswered. The site is a database, but it's also (supposed to be) a place where people can go and get friendly, helpful answers to their questions. When a newb comes on and asks a question, then immediately gets a response like "use the search function, newb" he might not want to come back on. This is an unfriendly, unhelpful response, especially if the posts on the subject do not answer the question.

I've been on this site for a long time and I've run into the problem where all the posts on a subject don't answer my question. I go to research, and someone asks the exact same question I have, and a mod told them to use the search function. If someone doesn't get a response to a question, but instead gets a rude reply to use a search function that doesn't help, he might just go on over to full throttle or another forum...

One helpful thing that could be done and it would involve someone taking the time to do it would be to set up a database. Something such as the problem and recomended solutions with maybe links to helpful threads. Make a sort of one stop shop for troubleshooting that would be quicker and less hassle than getting the "do a search" response.

                  That would be slick.

If you think making a post on a forum with a few active members and showing your mug all busted up is going to influence someone, well that's just pathetic. If people anywhere need to read your story or anyone else's to decide not to get behind the wheel after drinking or let someone else drive that's been drinking then they probably shouldn't have a license to begin with.

I got no problem with you or anyone else on here. I'm just bringing the arguments to the threads that no one else seems to because apparently knowing the person making the thread makes a difference in people saying their stupid or nothing at all.

It would and pretty damned helpful especially considering the problems people are stating they are having in doing searches. I'd give it a shot but I don't have much time right now to dedicate so it would probably take me, well long enough that our cars would be considered classics when I'm done. If it's just done in a simple HTML table in a seperate link like the board rules or tech database then it might not be that bad.

and thats why it wont work. because nobody has that kind of time. even if i did, i wouldnt do it, putting things together for new members is a thankless job and once its all said and done... you still get the same stupid questions and nothing but b1tching and moaning from the rest.

I definitely agree with those who say a new layout is well over due. I also think that there should be a new member area, and stevethepirate (IIRC) said that the posts in that section should not count, I agree with that too. New mods are definitely needed in some areas. I agree with DMW on the sig limit, the size of bone's and DMW's sig is fine, anything larger would be too big. More smilies would be nice. ...... thats all I can think of for now.

                                As for a database...
All that we need is a FAQ thread, with a list of problems/questions. I volunteer to use the SEARCH button to find the most relevant threads that can be linked to each question. So for the people who are either too lazy, or too stu-stu-stuuupid to find the search feature, you can just look in that thread.
