            it lightens or dakens the picture as you turn it to -.5, -1, +1 etc.

            + is brighter and vice versa

              And that's how you basically take a HDR photo.

              One shot at -2, one at 0 and one at +2

              Put em all together. Atleast thats what I read.

                      Photoshop can compile your HDR shots as well.

                            I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro - pretty good program. Lets you work in layers so you can tweak your pics. Dont know any freeware though.
