to clear up a few things in this thread, higher octane gas will give you better fuel mileage, NOT enough to save you any money over the cheaper stuff though

also, its not as easy to run low octane gas with carb/distrib engines, you will have to retard the timing so far that you will need to open up your primary throttle plates, because of the lowered RPM, this will start to dump fuel into the engine because you will have to be passed the transfer slots, and you will be running rich.

the only way to be able to run lower octane gas than that it calls for is if you have a cam with high duration, computer controlled engine, changing to aluminum heads.. now this is doing it the right way, but just adding my .02

My car is stock and it has always accelerated smoother with premium 93 then 87... I also noticed sunoco 87 is smoother then aother gas stations 87 in my car as well.. BP is by far the worst in my car. I drive 70 miles a day, i have a lot of time to play around with different gas stations..

he means the highest grade is 91.

87 in the Camaro, because anything higher on a stock tune doesn't really make a difference in performance vs. cost difference, IMO. Only thing I noticed by running 91 octane was the lack of gas fumes on startups in the mornings.

Early to mid-90s Acuras = high maintenance. Lol. I have to use 89 or 91 in the Vigor (depending on where I get it from). Made the mistake of trying out 87 once... never again.

Oh... and 100LL in the plane. :D You guys think car gas is expensive? Avgas was $7.00 per gallon in Kansas City a couple weeks ago. A couple hundred dollars to fill a tank makes travel hard sometimes.

kinda have to use 91 or my car gets lots of kr, and its hot her in arizona so that doesnt help much either...
