Now I know yesterday wasn't Friday the 13th or anything like that, but yesterday just seemed like a bad day for some of the local f-bodies. It seemed like all day I kept seeing beaten and abused or damaged Camaros and Firebirds. Nothing good at all.
Then, my car suddenly developed a coolant leak in the LIM. It started out as a faint smell in the morning when I went to work and had turned into coolant running off the lower part of the block by the time I got home from work. Weirdest part, it was out of nowhere. Nothing to tell me a leak was developing at all. Pretty much as if a hose had broken, rather than a gasket leak.
And finally, to top off the day... there have been two BEAUTIFUL fully restored 1969 Camaro SS for sale at a small private lot in town. They were the only cars on the lot this week. One was a blue convertible with white trim, and the other was a red RS with black stripes. I had the honor of being in a nearby business when they unloaded them from the truck, parking them next to each other. But as a friend and I were heading home last night from the north side of town, I noticed an odd reflection of the headlights from my car against the body of the blue SS. The door looked wrinkled. Immediately I realized what had happened and pulled over to get a better look. The blue SS was now slightly lined up behind the red SS. As we got nearer we could see a foot-long dent and red streak on the passenger side of the blue car. We walked around to the driver side and it was completely bashed in. Someone had jumped the curb from the road and T-boned the blue SS convertible, ramming it into the red one. There was also a large semi-dried puddle on the ground where the blue SS had originally been. It was totaled. The red SS was salvageable, but would need new front and rear driver quarter panels and driver's side door.
That's when we noticed the crunched up 4runner on the other side of the lot. It was also totaled, but nowhere near the loss of the two SS Camaros. Drunk or not, the driver was an idiot and will have fun paying for what happened. I was going to get pictures today of the damage, but the Camaros had been pulled off the lot already. I can't imagine the loss to the guy that restored and tried to sell these classics.
It was all enough to ruin my day.
