  • Which Mp3 player?

I'm looking for a good Mp3 player under $250 with a lot of storage capacity. I don't really need all the latest features as I'm really just going to be using it to put all or most of my music onto. I won't likely be playing videos or needing to use wifi or any of those other features.

I've narrowed down my choices to the Zune 80gb, the Ipod Classic 80gb, or the Creative Zen 32gb

All are priced just around $250.

    pros and cons:

-With the Zune and Ipod I have to deal with either itunes or microsoft software, whereas with the creative I can just drag and drop

-The Creative Zen has less storage for the same price, but is known to be very reliable

i have owned all 3 and they all have their strong points.
i had an 8GB zen forever thank god i had the warranty from best buy casue i had to replace it twice cause the stupid jack kept breaking.
my friend let me borrow his zune fore a little while and i really liked the menus and the fm radio.
i now own a 30gb ipod thats pretty badass, it has a lot more features than a zune and there are thousands of accessories you can buy.
btw you can use the ipod as an external hard drive but not the zune.
      and also zune=brick.

      happy shopping

idk but i like the sansa sandisk that i have, quick and simple and easy to use but the major drawback for you is memory....i think they go up to only like 8 gig with and expansion slot; its ok for me bc its small sleek and i dont need all that memory.

My brother has a Zune and I love using it. I personally picked up a Sansa Clip (2GB) on black Fri for a whopping $10. Best MP3 player I've had so far, so I give props to Sansa. As for the software, I don't mind using the Zune software at all; my cousin has an iPod and it drives me crazy trying to get songs onto it. Just seems to me the software for the Zune is faster at locating, transferring, deleting, etc etc.

I have the Zen and am very satisfied with it. the reason the Zen has less GB is because it is flash memory, where as the ipod and zune are hard drive based. So the Zen has no moving parts, while the zune and ipod have the hard drive internals which can fail if bounced around too much.

Plus, the Zen has an SD card expansion slot, so you can add another 4GB by buying an SD card.

I prefer the zen of the listed. I prefer flash memory as well as it has faster access times and is less prone to breakage. When are you really going to use over 32GB of music storage anyway? I consider my music collection to be decently large, and it only spreads to about 13 GB with well over 4,000 songs, many of unnecessarily high quality. There are plenty of songs that I've never even listened to. I've just never been a fan of ipods, and the Zune didn't do anything for me either.

I just went out and replaced my old 30gb ipod video with the 80gb classic. Fit and finish is very nice.
The other thing is that there are so many accessories and whatnot for the ipod. In terms of docks, stereos, covers, etc. you will be able to find EVERYTHING for an ipod. In addition, apple has some pretty great customer service.

I'm partial to my Sansa.. I have the 8g Sansa e280.. Have a thousand songs on it right now, and it's no where close to full. It's flash memory from a company known for its flash memory (Sandisk). Mine opens up like a flash drive, and I can just dump files into it by clicking and dragging from folder to folder. I use an MP3 tag editor to change the file appearance on the player display (change the files before dumping them onto the player).

only gripe i have with it, is that it seems like the shuffle mode plays a lot of repeat songs. Kinda like there is a set order to the songs, and one song always follows close to another. That, and there arent nearly as many accessories as with the IPOD.

Overall, its the second Sansa I've owned and both have worked great.

I've had my iPod for a while (30GB Gen 5). I use it for person and production work and it's been wonderful.

I've got over 50 Gigs of music and while it would take me a long time to listen to it all, it would still be nice to have it all in one place as oposed to being on various hardrives and CDs.

                      I wasn't aware the 32 GB Zen had flash memory...good to know...thanks

                        Re: Which Mp3 player?

I had a 30gig iPod Video, worked right for about 2 months, and everything broke on it. Had to replace the battery in it twice, the screen, the scroll wheel, button, CASE, everything. Finally died when the logic board crapped out on me, and since then have been a advocate against apple products.

Go with the Zune. Brick or not, they have far less problems than an iPod.

I have one of the old iPod Nanos. It's black and I got it as a Christmas present back in '05. Have had it almost 3 years, no problems. Just the battery doesn't seem to last nearly as long as when I got it.
