I was thinking more civic and prius, which is truly the ugliest car ever built. This one ups the Prius as far as looks, but it would have been so easy to do so much more than one up it. But when it comes down to it, I can't drive 2 miles without seeing at least 1 prius, usually 5 or 6. Cars like that sell for practical purposes, not looks, and with the volt raising the bar in practicality as well, I do think this will sell quite well.
im not impressed.. Im really not impressed with the new malibu either.. something about that front end just makes me think japan made car.. which I guess isnt a bad thing..

I couldn't agree more about the Malibu...I prefer the previus generation to the current. And I don't really understand all the hype over its interior either...I'm sure the higher trim models are nice, but the interior on the base model Malibu rental that I sat in was ugly...cheap materials trying to look upscale. Same goes for the base model Camry too though...ugly, cheap looking interior in that as well.
there have been no figures released...my best guess would be at least a few thousand more than a prius, given the fact that its all new technology in the auto industry.
Alright I don't feel like reading the entire thing, but does it say how far it can go on a single charge?
40 miles just on the lithium ion batteries alone, and although the article doesn't say, I've heard something like 800 kilometers or 500 miles on one tank of gas/diesel (depending on what engine they choose for it).
It looks ok, nothing remarkable... butter then Prius/insight by far.
My dad is really wanting to get one.
I would love to get one, and just find a parking spot at work I can plug into on the company's dime ;) before plug in cars get popular and companies make policies against this.

this will be a problem in parts of Western Canada too...I've never been, but my father has done work out there and tells me that in some places like Winnipeg they have electric outlets in grocery store and shopping centre parking lots for people to plug in their block heaters in the winter...it gets so cold you go in for a few hours of shopping and you come back out and your car won't start.
If I were to ever get a Volt, I wouldn't worry about the cost of plugging it in tho...my province, Quebec has the cheapest electricity rates in North America...we have many hydro electric dams so electricity is cheap.
