Im back

You know its bad when you sign in, and that little box pops up at the top saying "hey *******, why dont you post anymore?"

I guess its been since before I left the states that I've been able to get on here. I have been limited to shoddy internet cafe's up till now, which sucked. basically just sending an email or two and checking facebook.
I finally bought a portable wireless modem (which barely works) so i can get on and upload pictures and whatnot.
Its amazing here (Im in Oman for anyone that didnt know). Its stupidly hot though, and its Ramadan... so I havent been doing much. You just dont want to do anything other than lay in bed when you havent eaten all day, and its 100+ outside with crazy humidity. We go out at night... until like 4 or 5 am, which sucks because i get picked up at 8 to go to school.
People are really cool. There is a 19 year old in my homestay family, so ive been hanging out with him and all his friends.
Here are some pictures... you can see the rest on my photobucket though. Im just posting some of the most recent ones. Ive taken like 700 or something so far!

Yes, I can read that chicken scratch now. Arabic is stupidly hard... but its coming along really well. I can read everything on labels and signs and whatnot. Im having a hard time with the "artsy" lettering, but as long as its standard lettering, i can do it. Theres a reason its a level 4 language though! I thought that being able to learn italian and spanish easily meant I would be able to learn Arabic easily as well... I was wrong!

You should see the supermarkets here. they LOVE mountain dew... so theres a whole aisle full of it. Whenever i go out, i get handed like 18 cans of it. (arabs are the most hospitable people... so they want to constantly give you stuff. whenever i go out, i never pay for anything. some guy took me to get a haircut and a shave the other day... and insisted on paying! I have almost gotten in fights with people, trying to pay... and they dont let me)

sweet dew can. glad to see your enjoying yourself. i cant speak a word of another lanuage, i always skipped my forgien language classes in high school, i was terrible at it so i ended up just dropping it.

keep checking in with story's and cool pictures,and **** its nice.

Im over here for a semester in an effort to learn arabic. I figure with the aspirations of working for the government, 4 languages might help my case. BUT.... It turns out that the family I'm living with speaks swahili also, so I might try to pick that up as well. Knowing 5 languages, including arabic and swahili, would be very helpful.

I know I'm being robbed on the cigarettes. When I was in Morocco, you could buy a loosie for like 2 cents... It was crazy. Here, $1.30 or whatever it is for a pack of marlboros isnt that bad. Especially considering its over $5 most places in the states.


I would like to be on the internet as much as possible, but its not going to happen. I bought the prepaid wireless modem, which I have to recharge constantly. It costs a putzload to do anything online. I found a package deal where you pay $7.50 and you have unlimited internet for 48 hours though... So I'll probably just do that once a week or so.

Im in Muscat, Oman. In the next few months I'm going to be in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and all over Oman though.
