After five years without an Fbody registered in my name. I am happy to say that I am back and back with a vengence. It also looks like I am going to have to change my user name to 8birds now.
Just a little history for those that may care.
About five years ago I succumbed to pressure from my wife to sell the high school kids car. I parted with my 2002 SOM W68 Firebird. One of the worst decisions I would ever make car wise. I bought a Chrysler Crossfire and really did enjoy that car for while. Sold that about year ago again because the wife was giving me crap because it was only a two seater and we have 2 kids. OK, gave in again. This time picked up a BMW convertible 325 IC. Really a nice car. I really enjoy driving it. But still there was an empty space inside my car crazy head. Fast forward to about 9 months ago. I picked up a 1979 Firebird Formula with a 400 and a 4 speed. I always wanted to drive a Smokey and the Bandit car, so that is exactly what I built. Lots of time and lots of money later and it is done and I love that car.
You can see it at www.stevestoys.homestead.com.
But still, I always liked the fourth gen cars. I wondered if I could pull off getting another car if I said I was going to fix it up and sell it later. ( You and I both know I have no intentions of selling any Firebird again.) Well of course I found the fourth gen I wanted a month ago. And what a fourth gen it is. I picked up a 1998 TransAm M6. ( Of all the 7 F bodys I had ever owned , this is the first Trans Am I have ever had. Only took me 23 years to get it, my first F body was an 1985)
Ok so more about this car. While I was looking at it at the dealership, I looked into everything very closely. What caught my eye was the small metal tag welded on the stainless steel headers. It said SLP. Yes there were SLP longtube headers installed very professionally on this car. And a 3 inch Borla cat back with high flo cats also. Then the dealer came over and asked if I wanted to look at the folder of info he had. He had not had a chance to look at it yet. There in that folder was everything that was ever done to this car. The SLP headers, the Borla cat back, PCM reprogram, the high perf clutch, the Detroit Locker rear end with 3.73 gears, the custom intake, not to mention any and all maintenance from oil changes to brakes, to have the turn signal bulbs changed by the dealership. I further found out that this car was owned by a PGA pro golfer that lived in Florida that obviously had more money than time and put whatever he wanted into this car. I bought it right there and two days later there it sits in my 40 x 40 leased space I use for my business. If I sound excited, I absolutely am. I paid my dues and this is my reward. I am also happy about being able to interact with great fellow F body freaks here on these forums. Even though I don't have a V6, I feel closer to the folks here than over on the v8 boards. Anyway, thats about it . Sorry it I bored anyone. I am truly happy to back here in the family again.
Oh, and what about what my wife says? I stopped listening to her about the same time she started saying "no" everynight. One way or another I will be satisfied. HAHAHA
Pics of the Trans AM will be up shortly.
