Should I Get A Saab?

Some guy is willing to trade his 1996 Saab 900s Convertible for my 1997 v6 Firebird. His car has 170k on the body but only 90k on the engine and transmission. The engine and trans cam from a newer 1998 Saab 9-3. My car has 145k on the engine and body. Im getting sick of repairing this car and there are a bunch of problems that dont need to be fixed but annoy the crap out of me. Im in college and have no money to be fixing problems with the car anymore. I haven't driven it yet but I will def plan on doing that before even seriously considering but I was wondering what you people think. I dont need answers saying that Saabs are stupid because its not a Camaro or Firebird. Just looking for some nice helpful info, or maybe even another car that I could trade my Firebird for. He had it listed as $2000 and kbb at $3200. My car is roughly the same price. He has done a lot of work and is a professional mechanic, so I know its done right. I wouldn't get a older Saab if I am short on cash for repairs. They are reliable cars however, any car with higher miles will sooner or later run into an issue. As for Saab $$$$ to fix. And I would kill for a new Saab wagon right about now...

besides something that wont have so many problems, what else are you looking for? no matter what car you get with high miles, problems come with the package. best thing to do is keep your car, atleast you know exactly what work you have done and what needs to be done to the car. do you know what he would take for your car? do some research on the car for common problems and recalls.

Please only email if your serious, no time for games or childrens joy rides..I would prefer to be fair on my end and to receive fair market on mine. I just dont see paying insurance on 2 cars for one driver.

The Good!
Newer Motor and transmission out an 98 9-3 saab with only 95k miles Automatic!

Newer Chrome 17" rims and tires 8,000 miles. little rash on curb side good shape though they are pretty new nice!

New Battery, starter, alternator, Belts, hoses, radiator trans,flushed,front rotors and pads, 2007.

The Bad!
"keyed" The car has a few scratches the hood and right door is scratched, but mostly overall in good shape, few dings no accidents.

The heat and ac work fine but the knobs fell off so I use my hand tool;)

The right lower front control arm houses the abs sensor and the light came on because the arm needs a replacement as the balljoints are all in one unit. $100 installed, It still drives fine, just should be done.

It is a convertible and the roof works but needs a little help when rasng up, but it opens fine on its own, I use it all the time no serious problem clean black top with glass.

The audio system in the car was built up by me and is professonaly installed buy me.. It can come out on request or can leave it for 400 dollars I spent over 1000 on radio and speakers alone,I will replace with a brand new cd player if you wanted not to keep custom stuff.

The car be inspected by mechanic of your choice. I have clean mass title of course, and it has 170k mils KKB is still over 3200 in avg condition.


Trade for a z28, Pre 93 Mustang GT notch,stuff like that ok any condition is fine I want a project this winter anyways.

i have alot of friends with turbo saabs they are good cars expensive to maintain and good luck getting one tuned..

Thats what my wife was wanting to get was a Saab, but ended up getting a 07' Saturn Vue instead.

I've seen five different Saab verts driving around with the tops stuck in halfway-retracted position. The thing apparently gets stuck in the "way the heck up in the air" position. It looks absolutely retarded.

if you think repairs are a pain on your car, theyre gunna be alot worse on saabs. not nearly as cheap or easy to fix as your current car. but its really up to you
