  • horsepower for a 3.8 question

Would it be possible to get my 3.8 camaro to 300 horsepower without a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous?

Yeah. You would need stage 4 NA everything from http://www.intense-racing.com/ though.

Its gonna cost you way more to be N/A and you wont make near as much torque as you would with FI or nitrous.

        Not worth it IMO.

I'd prefer running N/A over FI anytime I can....but yea, 300rwhp will be difficult and expensive all N/A...you're looking full bolt on, cam, heads, intakes, stroker, **** load of tunning etc done...

300hp @ the crank can be achieved with probably cam only. Smokepanther made 248rwhp with Cam only...assuming a 20% drivetrain loss that is about 310hp @ the crank...

I think I will eventually get a supercharger or turbo, I just dont think I know nearly enough about it to install it myself.I dont know who could put it on for me. and i think it would be be pretty cool to be n/a and make around 300 hp or more. thanks for the replys guys.

If you dont know enough to install FI/nitrous then you dont know how to build an equivalent horsepower/torque N/A motor either.

You got all the information you need to learn how here. I sifted through the info via "search", asked questions about specific things, and installed a turbo on my own.

When I started though, I didn't even know what headers were. Tuning though.. oh man, it's taking awhile.

Full bolt ons and a huge spray of n20....might decrease the life of your tranny/engine but n20 would be the easiest route

                    N20 is not N/A lol...

Best advice man...pick a route you want to go with your car and stick to it...if you do a N/A build, it is completely different from a FI build...you're going to end up spending an *** load of money doing the same work over and over and over again...just pick one route with an end goal, and slowly work towards it...when I first started on here I didnt know much either...I will be installing my own cam by myself very soon....lots of useful info here...

Interesting. Assuming someone wanted the power to be there all the time, and therefore would not be interested in the hp-in-a-bottle, what would you expect a properly done forced induction setup to cost?

Also interesting that most of the responses seem to feel the o/p was looking for 300hp at the wheels...my first thought was 300 at the crank, which I believe you could do for somewhere between $2k - $3k (although I have to admit I haven't taken the time to price it all out). I'm just curious because I was also contemplating a build with 275-300hp (crank) as the target.

Actually, I was thinking intake, exhaust, cam (incl lifters, p/rods, rockers), injectors, alum. d/shaft, maybe alum. flywheel, and a ****load of tuning :D

LSD/gears won't have any affect on HP.

Mine was less than $2500 with EVERYTHING.

you will need LSD with a cam if you intend on using any of that power.

if you do a cam you don't need rockers they are a waste of 400$

stuff like lifters, and injectors are part of installing a cam...

and I consider full bolt on to be full exhaust, headers, lsd, gears, intake, w/p pulley, aluminum d/s...

but an aluminum d/s doesnt have any effect on your crank hp either :P
