Re: horsepower for a 3.8 question

Back to what I said: LOTS an LOTS of weight reduction, good suspension, stall converter, cam, 4.10 gears (or better). I forgot to mention bolt-ons by the way. These mods will beat a stock LS1.

I have doubts that those mods will be more than 300 hp. Yes, Smoke Panther made 248 rwhp with similar mods, but his car is an exception to the rule given the fact that he is the only one who has made numbers like that. Most others are are making 225-230 rwhp.

Lance made 271 with a COMPLETE custom race motor (custom high comp pistons, custom grind cam, custom heads etc.)

Who else have you seen or heard of that has made that kind of power with those mods?

As far as I know floydsummerof68 has run I think 13.5 cam only with a full set of drag radials...not sure the numbers he was putting down, or exactly what else was done to the car as far as weight reduction goes, but I don't think the weight reduction was really radical (I could be wrong though)
13.5 with bolt ons and a cam would suggest he was probably in the area of around 300hp...

I've never actually seen dyno numbers from him, so I cannot say for sure. If I am not mistaken, I do believe that was on the abbott racing N/A cam as well...

I've had a few conversations with Shawn about his car. The list I gave earlier is very close to HIS mod list which is why I posted it because I know it works. With LOTS and LOTS (300-350 lbs) those mods could beat a stock LS1.

Assuming he has a certain hp number by only looking at his track times and not even knowing his full mod list is pretty weak.

Im not taking anything away from him cuz his car was fast and I applaud him for his times, but I doubt it even made 300 hp (without nitrous). He is a perfect example of someone with less than 300 hp and could beat LS1's. He knew what he was doing and how to set up a car to run fast times without gobs of hp.

Maybe a little bit, but not that bad.

Plenty of V6 guys use them and dont seem to mind them.

it was a guess (I am aware of most of the mods)...I still believe he has 300crank hp atleast.... has he even dynoed it?

4.10 gears on an A4 f-body will give you a top speed of 152mph at 5700rpm

info on what your shift points and top speed with what gear can be found here: http://www.f-body.org/gears/

you can also get 3.90 gears which is inbetween 3.73's and 4.10's...it's a compromise between the two...

it will only be bad if you do a lot of highway driving

                    Yes.

If I was an all-nitrous car again, I'd have 4.10's.

considering I've trapped a best of 99.6 MPH with them, it didn't "kill" mine

not really. I've gotten a best of 26 MPG with my cam and 4.10s...for the performance gains, I think that's liveable
