Re: My New 2002 SS 35th Anniversary Camaro

I haven't used it yet, like I said it's still in the original box. I'll use the old tried & true good soap and wash mitt probably however the SS is sitting in the garage for the winter for now until I find a decent wash mitt and certain soap to use.

The SS is like a trophy wife, expensive to maintain its looks!:P

me to ask what's the " perfect " way to wash a Camaro SS? What do you all use to protect from swirl marks and scratches? Soaps, wash mitt, cloth type, chamois?

I use warm water during the winter, a micro fiber mit and turtle wax's Ice, Car Wash. Then dry with The Absorber.

After washing, I wax with this: http://www.autogeek.net/xmt-180-carnauba-wax.html
The XMT 180 works great and leaves an awesome shine without swirling.

If the finish needs a good polishing, then I'd suggest starting with a claybar and working your way up. Too many procedures to list here. I polished my GTO starting with the claybar, and all of the steps took me about 7 hours to finish.

The problem with the better caranauba wax's (from $30.00 per container up to $30,000.00 per container) is that you'll get a great shine and depth, but the wax needs to be re-applied in about 3 months for optimal glare. Synthetic wax's (Ice, Meguires NXT, etc) last much longer, but I personally don't like them because I think they lack depth. >jmo<

Great advice from your personal experience. Thanks!

The SS is pretty much immaculate from under and inside as well. So much attention is needed for the outside as it leaves a lasting impression about the car and its owner too.

I was surfing online and came across detailed this how-to website from Meguiar's.

                  Check it out at: http://www.meguiars.com/howtocenter/
