X2 , I love my SS hood. I also agree any Firebird or Camaro that is well taken care of is a great investment. It does cost a bit to keep them running and looking good.

a 68' camaro with primer.. doesnt sound too taken care of to me

probably needs a ton of work done to it

edit* maybe you need to give some more information on the car, i mean sure, if the car was 100% restored except for paint, then yes it would be worth it

I never said that specific car was taken care of. I was only pointing out the fact that if it was taken care of it would be well out of my financial reach. And also that I would absolutely love to restore one. Buying an old one that needs fixing sounds a lot more appealing than buying one that's already done.

you're right, it SOUNDS appealing.. but dont let it fool you

i would only buy one that has the sheet metal work done to it, other than that, its all good.. unless you are very good at body work, then it should be no problem

                      Re: Just drove by it

You guys are talking about a 40 year old car. Its going to need some work. 9g's for a driver isn't bad regardless of the paint job. Restored 1st gens go for 25000-50000 depending on the quality of the restoration and if it had any unique options or if it was a convertible etc the more its worth. And the values keep going up. Forgot SS's and Z28's and pace cars. Fully restored 67-69 z28's that are documented and original go well over 100g's.

I paid 9g for my 69 camaro 6 years ago and I've put double that into it. My car was a driver and registered. Yeah its paint isn't the best, but thats next on the list. I saving around 9-12g for a new paint job. I know I have some rust under my dash and my outer rear wheel houses need to be replaced not to mention I'm sure the vinyl top will have some rust under it as well. It now sports a 350 bored .060 over with aluminum heads, aluminum intake, roller rockers pushing 425hp, rebuilt 4 speed, moser 12 bolt, new fuel system(tank, braided line etc), rebuilt front and rear suspension lowered 2 inches, Baer brakes and new lines and master, new floors, new dash panel with autometer gauges, and the under side of my car was stipped of under coating and painted with POR 15, 17 inch AR Hopster rims with BFG tires. Once its painted, I could easily sell it for 45g no problems and my car was an original 307 powerglide with a 10 bolt. The original drive train is sitting in the corner of my garage.
69 Camaro 350 4spd, Full Hotchkis susp, Baer brakes, moser 12 bolt, Flowmaster

96 RS Hotchkis STB, subframe connectors, Hotchkis LCA and adj Panhard rod, SS camaro sway bars, Bilstein shocks, powerslot rotors, Borla exhaust, rksport headers, k@nFIPK

pretty much my point, i would have no problem paying 9k for one at all. cars like that are kind of a long term investment.

In regards to the orginal thread above, I like/prefer the 93-97 Camaro's with the SS hoods. Not too many of those around anymore, as opposed to the later SS's.
The headlights suck (even with upgraded bulbs) but the rest of the exterior's body style rocks!
