  • Damn semi's!

What is it about cars being prone to damage when the owner loves their car?
On my way home from work today some semi left me a little present in the middle of the road in the form of a large chunk off its tire. I was going to fast to avoid it without risking hitting another car. Luckily the front end is ok, minus some scuffing. The passenger side, not so lucky. I am hoping there is no serious damage.

That sucks. Sorry to see that happen to your car. Aside from the damage, car looks nice!

That sucks dude. I don't like stuff littered on the highway either. One time a truck was carrying a golf cart on a flatbed trailer and the window from the golf cart just flew off. I narrowly avoided it.

Anyways, with some bending (along the bottom), you should be able to push that fender back and line it up with the door again. Not sure if it will line up perfectly like before, but it should look better than what it is now. The side skirt looks like it may line up again too. Good luck.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Im sure most of us can relate. It's called Murphy's law and it sucks.

Something similar happened to me. Someone was tailgating me and I was too busy cursing them out behind me. I saw the chunk of tire in the road when it was too late. Nailed it. It coiled up under the car then spring loaded out the back smacking the windsheild of the car behind me. The look on the womans face was priceless. She yanked the wheel and just about lost control. She backed off.

            Re: Damn semi's!

I just finished tinkering with it. One thing I noticed that I didn't see last night, my passenger side fog light shattered. Luckily I don't use them often.
Also, the lower and middle fender mounts are broken completely. Some of the fender well is cracked off and part of the side molding is broken off as well. So I am going to need a new fender for sure if I want my Camaro to be back to the way it was.

Although it saves money and the environment, I do NOT like those re-treaded tires on trucks! They always come off and cause problems for other commuters.

You making an insurance claim or fixing it yourself?

                Re: Damn semi's!

I have no comp or collision, so I am SOL.

I got it to a point where it looks ok, but with those mounts broken I will fix or replace the fender soon.

yea that sucks...I know exactly what you mean...I was at my buddies cottage this weekend and it got really really windy...930 in the morning all I hear is my car alarm go off...I go outside and what do I find? 8inch diameter, about 10 foot long limb sitting on the passenger side of my car...walk around...passenger side mirror is toasted, shattered into little tiny pieces and the housing is all busted up...I guess I got lucky thats the only thing that got damaged though....could have been a lot worse I suppose, if the mirror didnt hold up, it would probably have gouged the whole side of the car, or if it landed on the roof...Id be a couple g's out of pocket

I just got back from lunch, went outside to tighten my header bolts. found even more damage from the damn tire. The hood wouldnt shut flush cause the fender support on the driverside got bent causing the hood to hit one of the bolts when I close it. There is also some nasty cracks in the paint of the ds fender. I really hate this crap. Why do I even bother buying a nice car when it is just gonna get f***ed up by other people.

                          Re: Damn semi's!

Insurance is pretty cheap for comp. Think about getting some. I have it on a $2500 94 Firebird.

And those damn semi's is how yor car got to the dealer. don't give them to hard of a time. Remember they are bigger than you. And I don't like retreads either.
