Just finished watching Gran Torino, and have to admit it was an entertaining movie. I think out of a lot of the movies i see lately this one was half decent. So many are full on five star crap that i can't believe i wasted 1.5- 2 hours of my life sitting through it. There was one quote in the movie that made me laugh a little, lets see if I can quote it. this is a bit of a spoiler so if you figure that i am ruining it for you don't read further. and if anyone else saw the movie what did you think? and ya i know I put grand instead of Gran in the title. typo

from the executor of the will:
"And I would like to leave my 1972 Gran Turino to my friend Thao Vang Lor, on the condition; you don't chop top the roof like one of those beamers, don't paint any idiotic flames on it like some white trash hillbilly, and don't put a big gay spoiler on the rear end like you see on all those other zipper heads cars, it just looks like hell. If you can refrain from doing any of that, it's yours.

I liked this because it seems to be a similar sentiment of many of us in the f-Body community. I know its a Ford but have to admit, it was a pretty nice looking car.

I'm waiting for it to open in my area. It's only open in select threatres. I'm getting tired of how Sci -fi/Action has dominated the theatres. A summer's worth of that is enough for me.

I saw "the Wrestler" on Christmas Day and that one was pretty good. Good story and very realistic to what these wrestlers go through. I used to workout with Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake and the story felt like it was about him. Same character and same situation. He actually had a minor role in that movie.

Mickey Rourke will probably win big awards for this movie.

Thanks for mentioning this movie. I just watched it and it was very good. I am happy to add this to my list of favorites.

I have been watching wrestling since the mid 70's. back then it was with my dad. I watch it to this day and it always reminds me of sitting there with him, watching Andre the Giant, Don "the rock" Muraco, big john stud and hundreds of others.

Wrestling has changed its face quite a few times since then, I still consider myself a mark, just an educated one. Watching the movie reminds me of why i still have so much respect for the wrestlers. These guys go show after show, almost always injured, they finish the match no matter what has happened to them, Look at Triple H when he tore his quadricep from the bone. Still finished the match, still got put into the walls of jericho. Terry Funk wrestling in his mid 50's. no more cartilidge in his knees, just bone on bone, but keeps going out there night after night for the "pop".

People keep saying how can you watch this fake crap, well, these guys may not go out there to severely injure each other, it may just be a story line, but they sure do know entertainment, and some of the best acrobatics you will see outside of cirque de soleil. Not to mention, for all the facade of a real sport, they sure do bring the cheers of the crowd.

I was lucky enough to go to wrestlemania in Seattle. I am even in the DVD of the event for a few seconds. It was a huge thrill for me. I watched from ringside as Brock Lesnar leaped off the top ropes and landed square on his forehead into the mat. looked at his eyes glaze over from the concussion, the mat burn on his forehead, and I remember thinking that if it was anyone else, they would have broken their neck. He still got up and with a little help from kurt Angle finished the match. The main thought going through my mind at the time that i wished that my dad was there watching it with me. 33 years of watching wrestling (since I was 3) and still a "mark".

yeah, my bro and I are huge wrestling fans. We still watch it from time to time. Like you I've been watching it since I was a kid. I grew up watching Hulk Hogan, Adriene Adonis, Brutus Beefcake, Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, you name it I've seen it.

I've met Triple H at a hotel and a bunch of other wrestlers. Triple H used to be the snobby gentleman, but in person he was cool. I met Mable and Moe. I will never forget how Mable have to dunk his head and turn side ways just to fit through the door.

I also met the Undertaker, but he wasn't popular yet. He was with the One Man Gang. I pretty much met most of them.

Your right about them getting injured and still continue to go on. Beefcake told me once that the Wrestling companies like the WWF and AWA and so on don't provide health insurance. It's better now for them.

I have only met a few of the wrestlers. Glen Jacobs (Kane) was buying pain killers in a Vancouver drugstore while I was in there. pretty big guy. I met Terri Runnels during a meet and greet. I used to play the card game "Raw Deal" and got her to sign my "Manager Interferes" card. she mentioned she never liked doing that move (sack in the nuts from behind) since she might accidentally do some damage. Got to meet Superfly Jimmy Snuka during a house show, Honky Tonk Man, and John Tenta (Earthquake) I met him back when i was in high school. I was visiting a friend in another high school and he went to school there. I am a huge triple H fan. I even liked him back when he was doing that other gimmick of being the noble man. In fact at wrestlemania my buddy and I were holding signs that said HHH on one side, and "dance for us Mr. Bo Jangles" on the other. (this was because he was fighting Booker T. and it was an inside joke with the song and Bookers Spinnerooni) The one other wrestler I met was Bret Hart.

I was pretty shocked when I heard about chris benoit. It is one of those things where you have seen this guy for such a long time and then he does something so heinous (regardless of reasons) and it just blows your mind.
