You guys should check out some of the newer V6 cars then: when my brother's g/f had her Xtera totaled earlier this year, they had to get a rental while they were looking for a replacement. They ended up renting an '07 Charger with the V6 & auto, and of course being brothers we couldn't help ourselves. I only had the Camaro about 2 months at that time, and hadn't really gotten the chance to play with it yet, but when we both were leaving my mom's house at the same time one evening we got the chance. That Charger walked the Camaro from around 20 up to 65-70 when we had to back off for upcoming traffic. It wasn't a huge difference, but it was definitely walking away.

She eventually bought an '05 Mustang, again with the V6 & auto: I haven't had the chance to run him in that one yet (I don't think she let's him drive it much - smart girl), but she did let me test drive it right after she bought it and I think it is every bit the equal of the Camaro.

Oh, and right before I bought my Camaro I test drove an '03 Mustang with the manual trans - keeping in mind I was looking for a car to build into a road-race car - and while I didn't like the feel of the 'stang as far as handling, I tend to believe it is really close to the Camaro in straight-line performance.

I know with all my weight reduction and the 3.73's and fully built engine, tuned, cammed, full 3" exhaust, RK sport headers, full suspension and good tires, my Camaro moves down low and at any RPM I'm at, I haven't found a dead spot yet. Thats not even running nitrous, 125-150 wet shot. All depends on what is done to the car. I thinking my car weighs in the 3000lbs range maybe less, I will have to have it weighed.

yes you can...part of changing the speedo is dividing your tire height by your gear...

....my engine doesnt sound like it wants to fly out of my car....however, when I punch it from 40 the front end feels like it takes off on the downshift...and the rear end feels like it catches up to the car a second or so later...like the rips apart then comes back together again lol....
what year is your car? mines an 02. from around 40 + (mph) is when it really picks up. in the higher rpms the car sounds like its flying, but its not really going anywhere bc its so heavy. once again my cars basically stock. thats why i call it "the fastest slowest car" lol idk i cant even describe it that well its like fast but not fast at the same time. i see the power and potential of the 3.8 engine, and i see me not really going anywhere just, the car sounding mean. its kinda like a bark with not much bite. but at higher rpms its got a pretty good bite for a v6 carrying all that weight. i cant wait to reduce alot of this weight i wanna see its potential cause it really does have it.

when i punch mine from a start my feels like it takes off then waits for the rear to catch it lol and then its slow until i get to higher mph and rpms.

What are some of the most effective weight reductions you can do? Besides removing the spare tire.

probably take the glass out and replace it with lexan and change ALL of the metal body panels to fiberglass

Tubular K member, tubular upper/lower A arms, QA-1 front shocks and springs, light weight battery, fiberglass hood, fiberglass SS rear spoiler, rear seat delete/w fill ins and prostar light weight rims on the front and some DR's in back. Also headers over the cast iron manifolds, Alm. driveshaft, Chromoly Lca's and Panhard rod. Thats what I have now and it is pretty light. Once I get it raised back up to stock height I will dump the exhast before the rear axle. There is also alot of misc. peices(cruise control, !top of panhard rod, front bumper support cut in the center, weight off the transmission , EGR, EVAP, !front sway when racing and Spearco light weight seats. There is a few, there is a list in the drag racing section for weight reduction parts. This is my list^ + spare tire and jack delete but added a 10lb nitrous bottle in it's place.

I would like to get the lexan glass all around and the 2 doors one day. That would lighten mine up even more.
