  • 01 v6 bird

i bought an 01 v6 a4 bird about 2 years ago and i love it, but it just doesnt seem to have much power or torque. it has the y87 package, magnaflow catback, and a k&n air filter but other than that its competely stock. ive been thinkin about adding and slp cold air intake, headers, a high flow cat, and a jet chip. any idea on how much this will improve my hp/tq? tired of gettin blown away by ricers...

it's my understanding that the chips aren't worth crap.

chip is garbage....cai will net you a little...headers wont give you much for your year as you already have pretty good flowing manifolds...highflow cat is worth myabe 2hp... maybe you need a tune up if your running ****ty....do you have any track slips? they can be a good indicator of whether or not you are running like you should be or not...

car has never been to the track. i am the 2nd owner. i bought the car june of 07 and the previous owners were an elderly couple that took very good care of the car. as far as i know the car has never had a tune up. is that somthing i could to myself? im still fairly new to all of this.

                Re: 01 v6 bird

depends what you want out of the car...you need to look at your end goal and budget...for me an older italian guy was original owner of my car, he didnt abuse it at all...I have every single record for the car, every receipt...**** I have receipts from the damn cloths and soaps he used to wash the car with by hand...oil was changed every 5000km and serviced regularly...I got my car for $5,500....for me to buy a v8 here it is minimum 13-15g's to get one in this condition.... not to mention I risk walking into someone elses problem. I consider myself luck since not many people keep such throurough records on there vehicles.

I am just finishing up ordering my cam parts for my car in the next few days here....Total I will have spent 9-10g's buying the car, mods, soundsystem, leather seats, ....so 9-10g's total...I should be running as fast or faster then an LT1 on streets when I finally finish tuning (still need to learn things with hp tuners)

In the end I have spent less then it will have costed me for a v8, I will have a vehicle customized to my liking how I want it, and it will sound bad *** with the cam in there...I will have spent more on a v8 and it would have been a generic stock v8 that so many people have.

In short my goal was to have a decently fast car that looks and sounds good...there will always be a car on the road faster then me, and since I don't street race I could care less if a few cars out there are faster. Most people I know that have faster cars have spent in excess of 15g's on/for there ride...I have the best of both worlds...money in the bank, and a ride I am happy with...

decide on your end goal and go from there...

then you to do. If you want a V8, dumping money in a V6 is never going to satisfy you

The reason I bought a Z28 is because I would never have been satisfied with my V6's exhaust note or the fact that it was an automatic. I wanted something that roared going down the street and that i could flip through 6 gears with. I still have my V6, but it is nothing compared to the '96 Z..

i guess i would be happier with my car if i didnt owe 10k on it still(thanks mom and dad)..they just had to add warrenties. and next time a purchase a vehicle, i dont think its going to be from a dealer. lesson learned.

yea that hurts...take full advantage of the warranty if you can...only problem with the warranty is most modding probably voids it...your gunna have to stick to descret things like gears and lsd and computer tuning at the moment...cams and what not are out of the question ...unless of course you want to piss that money for the warranties away...

What car did you use to owned before? Maybe you're comparing it to another car that's faster. You have to consider that the drivetrain is 12 years old and not 7 or 8 years. Back then that was good performance. Very few V6's back then had 200 hp and even fewer had 225 tq. (our is underrated it may be 235 tq.)

What's the mileage on it. Maybe you need to seafoam it or clean the injectors, buy new spark plugs and wires, and have the timing check and see if it's in the proper setting, etc.

Mods would wake up the car, but it may not be to your expectation.

yeah i added up the total amout of $ the warrenties added. $7400 (ouch). but my car has always been taken care of as there was only 1 owner before me. the care has never missed a scheduled maintenence.
