    Re: ls1 vs 3800

I like my v6, I can hang with just about anything around here. I rarely come across or see cars that can run in the 13's. But if someone offered me 6 grand for my car right now, i would sell it in a heart beat and look for an ls1.

      Re: ls1 vs 3800

My V6 was much cheaper to buy than a V8 when I drove it new of the dealer's lot.

That is the whole story for me. I'd love to have gotten a V8 but it was not to be.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

im just saying that although the ls1 is a good, strong engine, the numbers dont impress me at all

we have tv's that can produce a picture so good it looks real, we have aircraft that can go faster than the speed of sound, we have equipment to make a black hole in a building, we have space vehicles that land on meteors and take samples from it, 5 billion miles away.. and yet we are building engines that can hardly outperform their inferior counterparts from 50 years ago??

          that is my point

im just trying to say that everyone praises the ls1 to be this hungry powerhorse, like its impossible for it to be any better.. and yet at the same time, its not doing anything remarkable that we havent seen before

            Re: ls1 vs 3800

you seem to forget your also talking about a motor that hasnt been used in 5 years and over its last few years never saw any improvements. and for its time of 97-04 it was one the most powerful v8s (not including the ls6 because its just a worked over ls1) on the market. in terms of today, it still hold its own just fine against anything out there.

your entire aguement hasnt made one bit of sense from the begining and it blows my mind that you want to argue about the power level of a world class engine that created a entire new engine platform that has been the standard of which almost every single other v8 built is compared to. if not for the ls1 there would be no ls7 z06 or zr1, everyone knows its not the greatest engine available now, but every GM v8 engine produced today uses the ls1 as its building block.

you talk about these "inferior engines" from the past. guess what, they are in every single way. you are in over your head. i advise you sit this one out before you get schooled because you have no idea what youre talking about.

you can pretty much add me to that list...while I haven't made "progress" perse, I have ordered a majority of my parts and am pretty much just waiting on Mr. Abbott to give me a final price on my package, and everything is ordered up... Cam will be installed by the Spring time at the very latest...you can probably bank on mid February though, seeming as how that's when I have spring break, and will most likely have the time to do the install/ tunning.

I also like the Ls1's, but prefer my 3800...As I have stated before (cars here are more expensive) It is cheaper for me after I have bought both my car and ALL my mods that I have...then for me to go out and spend 13-15g's on an LS1...

My 3800 also reflects who I am... In life, so many times people will tell you that you can't do this, or you can't do that...they'll put you down...Then there are those people who look for the easy way out... So many people have this quest to own the fastest car, so they write the 3800 off and take the easy way out and buy an LS1...personally I like challenges, and I am well aware that there will always be a faster car then mine....I am not looking for the fastest car in the world, nor do I feel I have to prove myself to anybody.

For all I care, everyone in the world can call me stupid for likeing the 3800, and even stupider for modding it...I could careless...other peoples opinion don't matter to me... Do you know how many people I know that I talk to that are always worried about how other people precieve them? They want to buy something/wear something, but don't because they are worried about other people? Focus on yourself, and what you like, and don't pay attention to what others have...People who spend too much time comparing themselves to others will have nothing in the end...

Go out there, and do what makes you happy...A 3800 makes me happier then an LS1 would b/c I feel that I personally can get 13's out of my 3800 for a cheaper cost then an LS1...and the sound of the cam will be like sex...Personalized to my liking, rather then a stock LS1 which costs more.

to get back on topic...my vote 3800

                Re: ls1 vs 3800

this should have been 3800 vs lt1. maybe then there would be some variety because i know theres more people that dont like lt1s than ls1s.

personally I dont have a strong opinion other than right now stock, both can spank my 3800.

i dont think anyone is trying to sway people one way or another, but comparing the 2 motors... there is a clear and cut winner if youre looking for out of the box power and better building block if you like going fast for cheap

its hard to beat a ls1, trust me i know lol.

When you are comparing the LS1 with the 3.8, they are the same in every aspect other than performance, in which the 3.8 is drastically worse. Yes, insurance is cheaper (barely) and MPG is slightly better, but that doesn't mean much when you are saying which you prefer.

I love my v6... I have put a lot of money into it, and we still make sexy time every once in a while. However, I can come to terms with the fact that frankly, my car isn't sh!t compared to an LS1. The LS1 has everything that I have, and more!

like i said before..i guess i made this thread with the intent that maybe i would here some inspirational things about a v6 considering i have one and my chances of getting an ls1 or even an lt1 are very slim.

people who dont like lt1s are usually the ones who owned one and know the pains they bring you lol.

i can go on for days on that.

dude the best advice i have for you is to build what you got and enjoy it for what it is, not what it beats.

Im aware of that I am saying that if I was givin the option right now to trade my 3800 in for an LS1 straight up, I would decline....

HOWEVER, if say I just won a free vehicle and I had a choice between a 3800 or an LS1....I'd take the LS1...
