Re: ls1 vs 3800
It just depends. If you are talking to our group and other performance junkies out there ofcourse it would be the V8.
But if you're talking more to the laity who wants good gas mileage, good looks, decent passing power and cheaper to insure then it is the V6.
I know a couple people in my neighborhood who have traded their Vettes, Stang, Fbodies and such to a Honda Accord V6, Toyota Camry, or a BMW 3 series. I, ofcourse, consider this a down grade, but to them it's an upgrade.

Re: ls1 vs 3800
The 3800 is easier to work on, more space and responds great to mods. I vote for the 3800.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine

Re: ls1 vs 3800
i dont even see how its a comparison
ls1 has more power
ls1 gets the same if not better MPG
responds better to mods (full bolt ons = 350rwhp no problem)
looks the same
insurance isnt that much more
low 13s vs low 15s
better exhaust note
so many different parts can be used from other lsx motors its rediculous the combo's you can use (not to mention its endless and easy motor swap potential)
heads/cam will net you 400rwhp
its not even close. v6s are nice, but they arent even in the same league as the ls1. hell you can bang off 10s and still DD the car.Last edited by vanbibber; 01-07-2009, 03:10 AM.
current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

My car is modded and I get 28-32 hwy mpg. I know some LS1 owners are getting 24-26mpg.
Think about it. You got 8 cyl to feed with a slightly bigger injectors with the other one you have 6 cyl. to feed with smaller injectors.

There's my point. I put an *** on the Gas Mileage to show you that V6 and V8 do not get the same gas mileage. Ofcourse you can do things to improve gas mileage on both engines or you could also make it worst. So I'm not completely correct myself.
Believe me, I've been hearing this since the '80's that TPI V8 gets the same gas mileage or better gas mileage as the MPFI V6. The stickers on both of my cars, which I still have by the way, shows the same mpg as the V8. I brought this up to the salesperson and he ofcourse said that GM is too lazy to correct it or they are trying to attract people into buying V8.

Re: ls1 vs 3800
anyways, to answer the thread starters queston.. it totally depends.. i think the 3.8l is a lot more reliable than the ls1.. and i also believe that the 3.8 is a better engine in general.
the ls1 engine is only a decent powerplant after mods.. a stock ls1 engine is a joke IMO.. barely puts out 1hp/ci
with that being said, i will take an ls1 fbody over a v6 fbody any day
