  • A true nigerian scammer

this is an e-mail i received in reference to an ad i have posted for a 1700 wedding/engagement ring...

"Good to read from you. I want to buy this ring as a surprise gift for my stepson whose wedding/engagement comes up in 3weeks time in Nigeria. I live and work as a Technician with AT&T but am presently taking treatment from the injury i sustained in a fatal accident few week's back which caused my disabilty. I want you to respond with paypal money request on behalf of this transaction because it is the only secure and easy payment method I can use for now due to the state of my health. i want you to know that i will be responsible for the cost of shipping the item to him in Nigeria which i will prefer you ship through USPS (Registered Mail ).Hope to read from you soon."

        nono, you cant do that

the buyer can take their money back from paypal by filing a dispute, iv seen many times where people have received money in paypal, sent the item, then a few weeks later their paypal has a negative balance

the only way i would ever do that is to get a money order from USPS (thats gonna be kinda hard with him being in nigeria and all).. the reason i say this, is that usps will cash it for you, meaning you dont have to hold it against your own bank account

yeah, im not sure exactly how they do it, but i know it can be done.

paypal will always side with the buyer, i have even seen times where the seller has receipts and proof he sent the item, and the buyer says that the item was not shipped, etc. and paypal will refund them the money.

i saw one guy who got money from a scammer, then put the money into his bank account, and he found that paypal took the money back basically.
