  • What would you pay?

I've been tossing around the idea of selling my car; I love it, but I'm ready to face the fact that it will never be a V8. I already have plans for another car if I sell it, I'm just wondering what price range I should be looking at mainly. Car is a 1997 Camaro 3.8L V6 with M5 transmission. Mods include:
    127K on body
    45K on motor
    GT2 camshaft
    !balance shaft gear
Ported upper and lower intake manifolds
    Moroso Cold Air Intake
    PaceSetter Headers
3" Mandrel bent exhaust system, !cat, and brand new Hooker Aerochamber (still waiting to be installed)
    aluminum driveshaft
Posi rear end w/3.73 gears (rebuilt @ 90K miles)
Front U-Joint replaced a month ago (lifetime warranty)
Monroe Shocks all around (replaced a few months ago; lifetime warranty)
Moog springs all around (same time as shocks; lifetime warranty)
Power steering pump replaced 3 months ago (lifetime warranty)
ProForm short throw (shortened 1 1/2", combined with a pistol grip)
Like new tires (fronts are abit worn on the inner side due to bad alignment)
Paint is alright- front nose is spider cracked, and rear spoiler has some bubbles popping up the clear coat
Body is in good shape- no major or obvious dings, only noticeable if you know where to look, and they're not bigger than a quarter; car does have a Vizage rear piece on
Rims are stock 5 spoke chrome- they do have some pitting, but shine up nicely and still look good
Interior is good- dash pad is cracked of course, but I have a carpet cover; grey interior panels are in good condition; seats aren't ripped (have covers too). Power windows, locks, and driver seat.

Car has been regularly maintained; oil changed (either RP, Mobil 1, or AmsOil) & filter (either Mobil1 or K&N Gold) every 5K, trans fluid changed every 15K or so, plugs (NGK TR55's) and wires (Xact fit, OEM replacements) done every 20K. Car runs great; I make a 65 mile round trip for school 4 days a week, a 25 mile trip for errands 5 days a week, and then used for delivering pizzas 6 nights a week (avg around 50-70 miles a night). I have no problems with driving this car; drives great, runs smooth, shifts good (doesn't like 2nd every now and then, but rarely)

I would be willing to sell the stereo with the car, but would prefer not too since I will be getting another F-Body; system includes a pro-built, custom ported box holding 2 12" Kicker CVRs powered by a Rockford Fosgate P325.1 (~200WRMS each), Eclipse Components up front (model number escapes me ATM) and Jensen 6.5's in the rear, all powered by a Clarion APA4160 (~45WRMS each), and tied together with a 1Farad digital cap.

Also have a Vizage body kit for the car; again, wouldn't mind selling it with the car, but would prefer not too. Kit needs to be stripped and painted, but all pieces are there.

Again, I'm just looking for a price range in your opinions, and whether you would, or wouldn't buy my car. Plans are, if things work out right, to get rid of this one, and get either a 98+ TA, or a 93-97 Z28 (preferred, and already have a block for :P)

        Re: What would you pay?

depends on your car market in your area. Around here a v6 is not worth over 5k if it is a 97. You can get ls1 cars for under 10k here

That's what I'm afraid of; I think if I could pull $4k from it, I'd be happy, but I'm not too sure.

I paid $5k for this one 2 1/2yrs ago, and it wasn't in too bad of shape; I did have to do some work to it, but it was drivable. Of course, I've also put more money and work into it now, but cars are the worst when it comes to getting your money back out of them :(

Like I said, I paid $5K for mine 2 1/2 yrs ago; already found some nice deals on V8's for $7K or so.

                Re: What would you pay?

In AZ , maybe 2500-4000 V6 and LT1 goes for $4000 to 6500, LS1 some for 7000 and up. This is why I chose to build a turbo kit for my car to 8-10 PSI and make 320hp and up HP and only pay around $3000 to do it. Will be a V6 but have about the same or more power than the LS1.
                08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine

                    Re: What would you pay?

I think if you find the right buyer and fix your dash and maybe repaint the paint flaws you might be able to get almost $6000 for it. People aren't really to concerned with anything more than basic mods on a v6 like exhaust and intake so everything else like headers don't get you anything.

                      Re: What would you pay?

Sell your baby for as much as you can to gain from it and all the goodies listed to let the new owner continue on with the Camaro passion and get a good plan for upcoming GM muscle.

The new infusion of cash would go towards a 300HP 5th Gen Camaro. That will forever wipe away the long lost feelings of your old V6.

Wait a lil longer and reinvest your money towards the much more powerful V8 as GM Powertrain is looking forward to renewed dominance.

Or do what I did and purchase a nice TPI powered 3rd Gen to surpass the time until the 5th Gen V8 is available to satisfy the power hungry bug. From what I can tell it's biting ya hard. A sneak peek of whats waiting in Connecticut here for a lucky 3rd Gen fan > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem= :D

I recently bought my 10,500 original mile SS for the same reason but it was more of having the awesome LS1 and one of the last to roll out from the year 2002. The '02 Camaro SS is stored away like a rare precious gem.

Looking ahead, I will definitely wait for a slightly detuned supercharged version of the 639HP ZR1 'Vette motor to make it in the newer 5th Gen if it ever gets approved somehow.

Bragging rights takes time but well worth it in the end with patience. Best of luck in this economy to sell your Camaro.

Ugh, I hate when people do this. Take a nice car and just store the damn thing. You probably paid $25k plus for it only for it to stay in a heated garage for people to stare at. After about 20 years of it being there you cant drive it anyway, because a lot of the usual maintenance wouldn't have been performed on it. There was the story of a guy that had this early 70's Z28 that he had stored in his garage until a year ago because a car or something dinged the door and he couldn't drive it after awhile because stuff just wouldn't work.

                          Just irritates me so much

                            Re: What would you pay?

I hated to get rid of my 96 3.8 Camaro. I loved that car! But once I test drove the GTO, accelerated and heard the sweet rumble of the V8, I was sold. I drove it away from the dealership's lot and haven't looked back since.

I do however miss my t-tops!

I have no idea what you can get for your car, but the value (most likely) isn't going to increase. Make your move with it's current value. Ain't nothing like having that new car smell all over again
