I need YOUR help!

I have an assignment for a psychology class I'm in and it requires me to interview divorced, married, and never married individuals. The more the better, and everyones input helps! My guess is i'll have an abundance of unmarried, so I especially need help from married and divorced individuals!

You can post a response or PM me if you want, the questions aren't necessarily personal, though I ask that divorced individuals make the judgments in question 1 based on their own experiences.

1. What would you consider the major reasons are for the high divorce rate in this country? (List in order of importance) [no minimum, just list the main ones you can think of]

2. What would you consider the major reasons are for staying married? (In order of importance)

3. What do you think could be done to decrease the divorce rate in the United States?

I have been married 7 years to my wife and known her for about 11 years.

1.Communication, money troubles, marrying for wrong reasons, marrying too early, not knowing each other long enough before marriage, lying to each other, greed, hanging on to their old lifestyle.

2. Communitcating well , working together on projects, working out disagreements, honesty, being like best friends, trusting one another.

3. Knowing the person for at least 3 years, marrige conselling courses before marriage, living together 1 year before marriage, Really no way to predict if a couple is going to stay togehter it is how much each person is willing to give to the person they love and not expect anything in return because it should already be equal if the marriage is going in the right direction. It's when one of the two expects more from their other half is when they will run into problems, it should be an equal relationship both pulling their weight if their partner needs more help one day or a week the other should step up and accept the responsilbility until their partner is well back to their self.

Divorced.
1) Time, married because of children, people being not being faithful (not me) lol
war on terror, alone (emphasis on time), I have a whole list on why I got divorced...

2) depends on the family, my reason for wanting to stay married and forgiving her, Love (over rated) family, Children, and some people religion. (not me)

3) Money, more compatible people, less war, More time...

I have so much more, but I dont want it to turn into a *****ing post. lol

I think the major reasons of divorce is that people dont wait as long before they marry. Courting used to be a major thing, and now people are getting married after dating for only a couple months. Another blame can be placed on society as a whole, the fact that marriage isnt viewed is as much of a sacred bond as it used to be.

The main reason I can see for staying married is so that you dont have to do these assignments on high divorce rates anymore! lol, but honestly, for the children.

3. What do you think could be done to decrease the divorce rate in the United States?

[TheGr8Schlotzky] I've been married for almost 10 years. Never regret it. I love my wife more now than I did when I first married her. She feels exactly the same way as well. Trust me our marriage has been tested a lot. We are currently broke, my wife's health hangs in a balance, and we can't have kids. But we do plan on adopting as soon as her health gets better.

People have asked me if I knew what I was going to go through today would I have still married her? I told them I would in a heart beat. We had 7 years of great marriage without any problems and we had money and we used travelled twice a year anywhere in the world. So I know what kind of life we had before and what kind of life we have now and who knows what kind of life we would have tomorrow. I don't really care. As long as I have her on my side I'm happy.

Several reasons why couples divorce. The number one cause of divorce is money. Second is the lack of maturity. Third is adultery.

Major reason is love. Second reason is companionship. Third is a sense of belonging.

3. What do you think could be done to decrease the divorce rate in the United States?

My major thing that would decrease divorce rate in USA:

1st Don't shack up. Living together is a try out marriage that comes with free sex. It lacks sense of commitment. Once the couple gets tired of each other they move on. Once they marry their sense of commitment is not fully there.

2. Don't get married too young. Again this relates to maturity.

3. Know your partner well before you marry. Know their personality and see if its compatible to yours. Use dating as a way of observation. Whether or not you wanna have 50 kids with this woman or man and you want to spend the rest of your life with.

4. Once you found the woman or man you want to marry, be sure to honor your vow: for rich or for poor, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.

5. My personal thing, make God the center of marriage.
