  • Uggh...Irony can be ironic

I've been laid off since Thanksgiving of last year. I've been living off my savings and unemployment and so on. After months of looking for a job I finally found one this week. I'm going to be working as an Admission Rep. for this private college that specialize on Nursing and Pharmacetical.

Ok, here's the Irony - the position was offered to me today since I past my physical, drug test, and background check, which I took on Tues. I was excited and thankful. I even went to Church today to give thanks.

Three hours later after the position was offered to me a manager from this engineering company called me and offered to hire me as their designer and coordinator. They specialize on civil engineering and they are the ones responsible for putting up stop lights on the the streets.

The pay is the same, but the location is less than 5 miles from where I live vs. 35-37 miles with the other one. And I always wanted to work for them, but I already gave my word to the other one. The manager of the school already set up my office and is looking forward in having me work for her. I spoke to the owner too. Very nice people.

The engineering manager who interviewed me on Jan. said he always wanted to hire me, but he's been very busy in getting back to me on it. I ended up turning him down and when I told him the situation, he was flabbergasted. Aaahhh NUTS!!

Ditto; if you upset the other guy, oh well. I'd rather be happy and be set for the longrun than make someone else happy and stick to my word :P.

You're right. Oh well, I already turned it down. This is probably a major lost for me, but who knows.

go back with candy and flowers, give the guy a puppy dog look, and say "I sorry"...

its not about the job, its about being happy with what ya do.. I wish I could make millions just staying home hitting the 360.. but I guess no one is hiring with that position.

                  Re: Uggh...Irony can be ironic

First off, congrats on the offers! Good to hear you are back to work!

i look at it this way... there are only a few possible causes for the second company to take 1.5-2 months to get back to you with an offer:
                  1. they are run by inefficient people, and it just takes forever to accomplish anything - now, this may make you look good by comparison, but believe me, it may not be worth the hassle
                  2. you are not their first choice, and almost 2 months worth of rejections have occurred before you, before they got to you. I'm not saying this is necessarily bad, just saying they felt you weren't an ideal fit when they were hiring THIS TIME.

I know how it feels to pick from offers like this.. I was in a similar situation about two years ago. Ended up going with one company over another, and that led to a bunch of new opportunities, and, crazy enough, eventually meeting my fiance. Be happy with your new company! Good luck!

I would think the college would have better benifits, then private Co.'s. I know Hospitals, schools, and Government jobs usually have great packages since there are alot of employees and have low monthly payments with great packages to choose from. I've worked for the a College, City, State, Hospital and County. The best was the hospital, then College and County since they were both ran by the County, then State, then City as in Benifits. The lowest I paid was about $30 a month for my wife and I with full medical and dental when I was working as a Psych Tech at a hospital for 4 years, one of the worst jobs you could ever have, even worse than working for DOC for 7 years. At least I could beat the crap out of the inmates if they got out of line( Esp. the Chomos and rape f*ckers).LOL I would always read their jackets(file) when they first arrived on the unit. Can't do that with Pysch PT's, well not too much.LOL But I think you made a good choice Edgar, and I hope you do well along with your wife. I hope shes getting and feeling better.
