  • Looking at new cars - GM still doing the same old BS

I'm looking around for a new daily driver. I thought I'd visit Chevy to see if they want to sell me a car a great price.

Short answer - Underwhelming - same old car dealer stupid talk that's been done for years.

I told the salesman I am ready to make a deal today - for a great bargain. He keeps insisting he wants me to sit down, let's talks, let's go drive in the cars.

Me: No thanks -here is my phone number and email address - call me when you're ready to deal.

    My annoyances:
    - I don't need the salesman to waste my time giving me a spiel about stuff that he's either BSing or does not fully understand.
    - I don't want to take a test drive - unless I'm ready to buy a particuloar car that the dealer is making me an incredible deal on. I've driven plenty of cars and they all smell and fell nice when they are new. I've already picked out the specific types of models that I'm interesed in.
    - I don't want to talk about financing. I'm buying a car, not financing. After we've settled on the car and agreed upon a ridiculously low cash price, then maybe I'll consider haggling over financing arrangements and I'll decide if I want the no interest loan, pay cash or get my own financing or whatever.

Give me an insanely cheap price on a new Malibu LTZ V6 OR a new Traverse with leather.

Don't want to do that? No problem - I'm in no hurry - plus there are loads of dealers in Florida, many will to ship the car of my dreams right to my front door.

The salesguy emails me: Hey - What kind of car are you looking for (duh), come on in and let's sit down and talk (grr) and let me really find out what you want (duh) - I've got some great financing deals (roll eyes). By the way, here's a used Impala I've got a deal on (but I asked for new Malilbus and Traverses).

Keep on plowing yourself into the ground, GM.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Yeah, if you don't watch it they will make you buy a car that you don't want either.

I remember when I was buying my Firebird for 2k off the sticker price. I liked the black one, but they told me that it was on hold for someone. Then they try to see me a red one (hard top) or a Grand Prix for the price I want. Just when I was about to walk out the door they called me in and sold me the black one.

            LOL - it gets better.

Now the sales guy handed me off to an "internet sales manager" - she offered to sell me a Malibu LTZ v6 for $1000 off the MSRP less GM incentives.

w00t - $1000 off adjusted MSRP :omg::bowdown: - as a matter of fact, I was just born yesterday.

Yeah, they're a joke. They are salesmen, not bright people.

I was going around with my mom when I was looking for a first car. I don't even know how many dealerships I went to, so many stories.

                My favorite:
Went to a dealership, walked around a lot. Spotted a few mustangs and camaros that I was interested in. A salesman walked out and convinced us to go sit down with him. He started spewing the typical salesman BS. We kept telling him just to give us numbers. He kept getting up and going to talk to the manager for long periods of time. He would leave us sitting there for 15 minutes at a time, a few times. Finally, we got fed up. We got up and walked out past him and the manager, my mom waving her checkbook at them. You should have seen the look on the manager's face!

Re: Looking at new cars - GM still doing the same old BS

I have been going through the same thing. I have a great job, great income, excellent credit, plenty of cash for a healthy downpayment, etc.....

I am in no rush to buy so I have been browsing for a new car for my wife. I go to these dealerships where there are 5 or 6 salesman sitting around bored out of their minds yet they cannot make ANY good deals. It is amazing that in this struggling economy I cannot get a great deal on a new car. I have been to Chevy, Ford, Mitsubishi, Honda, Toyota just browsing and they all seem to say the same thing... Maximum $1K off of sticker price, blah, blah, blah...

Oh well, I guess they would rather let all of their unsold new cars just sit there and bake in the Miami sun.

hell i went to a sales lady at the dealership i work at and she wouldnt even make me a good deal, what she was trying to give me was like 2k off sticker, but i would still have to pay tax tag title and doc fees...i went to my service manager and he made a phone call and found out what they had in the car and what it would cost me, 5300 off sticker is what i would pay including all the bs fees. btw it was a 03 gtp.
