are the Lt1's built to last longer than the 3.4's?

Any engine will last , depending how it is driven and maintained. The Lt1's have the Opti-spark problems and thats the only problem I know of that people complain with them. The 3.4's don't really know about. The 3.8's have a good reliable engine if it was taken car of. So just depends on you budget and I much HP you want from your car. Also how much gas and insurance is going to be with a Lt1 would also be a factor.

true dat. my 77 t/a, 76 bonnie, 79 t-bird& 78 Formula all had their origonal running good engines when I had them. Treat them good, and they'll treat you good back.

RS, i'm in seminole florida, how about you tinker with it, and then give it back to me lol. Even if i did find another engine for a couple hundred, it would still coust in the thousands for labor. I found a black 87 bird with a 350 a rebuilt tranny and t tops, an 84 monte carlo with a fully built 355, a 94 firebird with t tops and a lt1 with only 70,000 on the engine (but the body is ugly) and another 3.4 camaro tan with t tops (witch is my faveorite color on camaros) all for under 2500 (each, not all together). if only they wer'nt all automatics. i would rely like to find a 3.8 camaro but there all in the $5000+ range, unless someone here is selling one.

You can have my red one for $4500

i wouldn't think gas would be a whole lot worse than my 3.4, scene my 3.4 didn't exactly run like a champ. And im not one of those guys who stomps it every ware i go.

my parents are starting to tell me i should get a honda or something so the same thing that happend to my camaro dosent happen again, but in the 2000 dollar range i would be better off with this 70k lt1 (assumeing he keped up on mantenence) than some 130k vtech in terms of reliability right?

it all depends on previous owner, if a teenager drove the lt1 and it has mods, then you can bet that it was dogged. if the honda was driven by a 80 year old lady...you get the gist.
