  • Couldn't find the introduction thread so here it goes

Hello guys, I'm new here obviously. My name is Tyler, and I am a college student from Connecticut. I currently attend WCSU and am a member of the varsity lacrosse team. Unfortunate for me lacrosse takes up 90% of my time so modding my car has taken a back seat for the last few months. That will change in the next few weeks though....

my current ride is a 98 pontiac firebird with a few mods

    pacesetter headers
tsp rumbler exhaust with muffler removed
    custom made intake
    4.10 gears
    zexel posi
    hp tuners
    autometer wideband
    ws9 hood
    and a few other goodies.

the most important mod is yet to come. I recently acquired (thanks to a couple guys on ftv6) all the parts I need to install a powerdyne supercharger. I plan on running 6lbs of boost to start and get a baseline, and then bump up to 9lbs. The parts will all be here sometime next week so I will update throughout the install and share the final results with you guys!

Re: Couldn't find the introduction thread so here it goes

I had a powerdyne kit for about 4 years had a 928 rebuilb with ceramic bearings, venting shimming, and GT belt the most I could get with ASP grooved pulleys and JD wrap was 8-11 PSI with the belt still slipping down on a 2.6" pulley. 1st run was always the best 280 ish , 330 TQ, then it would get heat soaked and go down to 240 ish HP, 260 ish TQ, this was with a VS cam and methanol injection, only could run about 13 degrees timing in winter/summer 11 degrees. Also trying to run that high of boost with the Powerdyne I ran into problems with the internal belt breaking and slipping off the input and output shafts. I think if I would of stayed with 6-7 PSI, I wouldn't of had so many problems with the internal belt. So your best bet is stick with the 6-7 PSI which 36lb injectors are fine for , I never had a problem with maxing them out even at spiking at 11 PSI. If you want more power after that , use nitrous or just go with a turbo kit. Thats my personal experience with the powerdyne and about $5000 worth of parts into it in the 4 years I had it. This is also in AZ where it is very hot, so in cooler weather it might do better. Good luck with it.

^thanks for the advice. i dont race the car so I'm hoping everything will last. the powerdyne is brand new but ive still heard horror stories.

did you use the "john d powerwrap"?

is a new fuel pump 100% necessary? i already ordered a walbro 255 but i dont have my cutting tools to do the access panel, and i dont wanna drop the rear in my schools parking garage!

Yes , JD wrap, with a Walbro 255 high flow, 36LB injectors never had fueling problems.

Ah welcome! I always like seeing forced induction projects. Sounds like you already know what you're doing so that's always good. Should have seen me 2 or 3 years ago "Uhh what are headers?"

lol i was the same way a couple years ago. i've done a lot of reading, and started putting in some wrench time this winter. I feel that this sc install should be a breeze. i think i can get everything done in a day.

the only thing im worried about is plugging the pcv at the tb because ive never tapped anything before :D

Oh that part is very easy, tapping is a breeze. The throttle body's metal is pretty soft and the tap goes in easily. Then just screw the plug in, silicon it and you're good.
