i always take my car there to get my tires changed, i decided to go to another one that is closer to my house, and these idiots charged me $50 to change my tires, while the other place is usually around $25

when i went in, all i told them was i wanted my tires changed, they didnt even mention balancing, but thats a given

i was charged $24 for balancing, $15 for mounting the tires, $7 for new valve stems (wtf, i did not tell them i wanted new valve stems, they have absolutely nothing to do with changing tires) and a shop fee is around $4.. why the hell would i need to pay a shop fee, its not like they threw old tires away or disposed of anything

im going to give monroe a call later and tell them that they either have to refund me the $7 for new valve stems, or put my old ones back on, i did not tell them to put new ones on nor did the guy ask me, they just "assumed" i wanted new ones to make me pay more money

all of the other stuff i am fine with because they can have different prices, even though i have never been charged a shop fee before

Most of the time, if the steam is leaking, even a little bit, they'll go ahead and swap it out; my buddy works at a tire place, and that's how they do it. Since I know him, he asks me, but he says otherwise it would just be a given to change them out. And what tires are being "changed"? Do you mean rotated?

im sure if you were walking down the street and dropped $7 you would pick it up and not say "oh, its just $7 i will leave it there"

im not mad because of $7 im mad because they did something to my car that i did not ask them to do.. im sure if you took your car in to get new tires and they went and aligned your car without telling you and then charged you for it, you would be pretty mad.

the valve stem isnt that old actually, and wasnt leaking, my tire pressure has never dropped nor have i had to put air in the tires for ~5 months

the valve stems were replaced when i got my new tires put on.

and by tires being "changed" i took my snow tires off and put my normal ones back on.

im just mad that they went and replaced them without telling me.. i have always gone to a different monroe and i usually paid half the price.. when i walked in the guy would ask me a few questions:

1. what tires are you replacing
2. do you want them balanced
3. do you want the old ones back

not to mention when i was there i heard the guy fail someones car for inspection, and told him he needed the following done:

-new air filter
-new transmission fluid that HAD to be flushed, not changed with top of the line transmission fluid
-bad windshield wipers
-check engine light on - they asked the guy if he wanted to pay for them to hook up their state of the are computer system to read the code

i was ready to tell the guy he can get it checked for free at advance auto

these people are money hungry and will do anything to try and find ways to charge you extra money when its not needed.. when doing an inspection they arent required, nor can they fail you for a dirty air filter or dirty transmission fluid

exactly.. my dad took his car to a goodyear place for it to be inspected once, and they charged him $2 to take his license plate cover off because it is illegal to have (its not) and charged him a $1 disposal fee for it, and they didnt even tell him

he was pretty pissed off about that.. same reason why im mad about the valve stems

Your right, because I dropped it on the ground and noticed it.

But say I did drop it on the ground, and didn't notice I dropped it til' that night when I got home, I certainly wouldnt put up flyers all around town saying I lost my $7, and I sure wouldnt lose a wink of sleep over it.

I especially wouldnt go online, and post of (possibly) multiple forums about how I lost a few bucks.

I would be mad if they charged me $100 for an alignment without telling me. But if they aligned my car for $7 I would be ecstatic.

But then, Id realize.... your wrong because if my car needed an alignment, and I was getting new tires put on it would save me money. Because if my car is in need of an alightment, my tires would wear faster and unevenly... and Id be back in a few months wondering why my tires are f'd up, and they'd say, sorry dude, we told you, that your car needed an alignment and you refused, so why not spend a few hundred more on replacing your new tires.

Valve stems dry rot.

Im not saying that yours were leaking, they probably werent.
They were probably fine.

But its easier to replace valve stems now, while the wheels are off the car, and the tires are off the wheels then to have to go through that process later when they do start leaking.

It may be the store policy that they have to change them, who knows? Ive never even heard of monroe muffler.

But for you to demand they either refund your money or put the old stems back in over a $7 dollar charge is absurd.

If you lived closer, id give you $7 just so you'd shut up.

i really have no idea how you can be defending a company that tells lies and tries to cheat people out of their money.

i told them i wanted my tires changed. they never asked me any questions unlike any place i have ever been to. in reality they could have just put my tires on and not even balanced them, that would be my fault for not telling them.

im sorry, but changing valve stems is not part of getting my tires changed, i did not ask for them to change the valve stems, and i should not have been charged for changing them.

this is right off of their website:

•We do not sell products or do repairs which are not needed.
• If you authorize us to work on your car and we find other work that should be done, we will call you for your approval first.

first bullet, my valve stems were fine, and yet they replaced them, they did a repair that was not needed..
second one, they say that if they find anything that needs to be done, they will ask for my approval first, so even if my valve stems were somehow bad, they should have asked me to replace them first before they did.. not just put them on and then charge me for it

its not worth the aggravation, i agree, but im a very stubborn person, i will go out of my way because of this.. i just dont think it is right for what they did, its not about the money its about the ethics of it

for the record monroe has always done a good job on my vehicles and saved me some hassles too.

just the other day they spoted a screw stuck in one of my tires, so i had it repaired right then and there. They look around to see what else is wrong with your car (your stems hmmm?) not to screw you but to help.

i have gotten my tires changed at another monroe all of the other times with no problems, and for half of the price.

i guess i was wrong to bash the whole company when i have had a ad experience at just one specific store.
