Jobs! Revenue! Jobs! Revenue! 45,000! $288 Million!
THE COMPACT
Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman Mitchell Cypress signed a Compact Agreement in November 2007. The compact authorizes Las Vegas-style slot machines and card games like blackjack and baccarat at the Tribe's Florida casinos in exchange for revenue sharing with the state.
REVENUE FOR FLORIDA
The Compact Agreement calls for a minimum of $2.5 billion in payments to Florida over the next 25 years. Conservative projections peg the likely revenue at more than $10 billion, or an average of more than $400 million a year.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
The Seminole Tribe has committed to significant expansion at four of its casino complexes, resulting in 45,000 new jobs, including construction jobs, direct employment by the Tribe and indirect employment as a result of the casino development projects. These projects will mean billions of dollars in new investment in the state, resulting in an economic multiplier effect that will positively impact thousands of businesses throughout Florida.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW
The Compact Agreement is slated for review by the 2009 session of the Florida Legislature. If Florida Senators and Representatives agree with Governor Crist and approve the Compact, a total of $288 million will be available for the upcoming 2010 budget year. The money can be used for education in Florida and offset a portion of the ongoing revenue shortfalls and budget deficits facing the State.

I myself work in one of the Seminole Casinos and I can honestly say I love working there! But Im not asking for this on my behalf, Im posting because Florida needs jobs! BADLY! At least in my area, most people are unemployed. I think most of you have seen the unemployment rate... Check out the site and sign the petition if you support it...
Note: This is not a Casino bashing thread, so don't bother...
Sorry I posted here; but it would never get any exposure in the Florida section, and others might like to know whats going on...
