Jobs! Revenue! Jobs! Revenue! 45,000! $288 Million!

    THE COMPACT

Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman Mitchell Cypress signed a Compact Agreement in November 2007. The compact authorizes Las Vegas-style slot machines and card games like blackjack and baccarat at the Tribe's Florida casinos in exchange for revenue sharing with the state.

    REVENUE FOR FLORIDA

The Compact Agreement calls for a minimum of $2.5 billion in payments to Florida over the next 25 years. Conservative projections peg the likely revenue at more than $10 billion, or an average of more than $400 million a year.

    ECONOMIC IMPACT

The Seminole Tribe has committed to significant expansion at four of its casino complexes, resulting in 45,000 new jobs, including construction jobs, direct employment by the Tribe and indirect employment as a result of the casino development projects. These projects will mean billions of dollars in new investment in the state, resulting in an economic multiplier effect that will positively impact thousands of businesses throughout Florida.

    WHAT HAPPENS NOW

The Compact Agreement is slated for review by the 2009 session of the Florida Legislature. If Florida Senators and Representatives agree with Governor Crist and approve the Compact, a total of $288 million will be available for the upcoming 2010 budget year. The money can be used for education in Florida and offset a portion of the ongoing revenue shortfalls and budget deficits facing the State.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

I myself work in one of the Seminole Casinos and I can honestly say I love working there! But Im not asking for this on my behalf, Im posting because Florida needs jobs! BADLY! At least in my area, most people are unemployed. I think most of you have seen the unemployment rate... Check out the site and sign the petition if you support it...

Note: This is not a Casino bashing thread, so don't bother...

Sorry I posted here; but it would never get any exposure in the Florida section, and others might like to know whats going on...

Here's an idea, if they want to help Florida's economy, treat a percetnage of that 400 million like a stimulus package. Send a percentage to Florida resident's, doing the math I'd accept 1/100000 of it, that's about $4,000 for those that don't want to use a calculator. How is pushing their agenda gonna help me? It's not unless I see some cash in my pocket as a result of their gains. So where do I sign for my plan?

No jobs is the heart of the problem... The more ppl that work, the more ppl that spend - the more ppl that spend, the more jobs are created.

Second, we already do most of the things that this bill will let us do. I say let Florida get some of it too! Which that money will create more jobs as well! :D

Like said, Im not saying this for their gains (they already have it), Im saying it for the jobs (and budget) that we need!

To complete my rant I'll say this. That 400 million could further go to the educational systems specifically higher ed. I'm at a community college where we'll see between a 1-5 million cut. UCF is anticipating a 25-50 million cut that results in 100's of lost jobs for them and us. All the while our enrollment is up double digits from last year as is UCF's. Why not put the money into something that really makes a difference rather than slot machines.
