  • What would you do...

if you ordered a new rear end off one of the v8 boards that was sold as having new 4.10 gears. Paid over $600 total for the rear and shipping...drove an hour and a half each way to your parents house to install because you live in the city, spent about half a day putting the thing in. Then started driving and didn't feel that much of a difference, checked your speed vs rpm and realized you had just bought a rear 3.73s? I did the thing where you spin a wheel one full turn and count the driveshaft revolutions. 1 wheel turn spun the shaft about 1 3/4 turns which I'm told to double to get the gear ratio...so definitely not 4.10s, but I do want to pull the cover and count the teeth to be sure. Anyone know how many ring gear teeth on a set of 3.73s?

    New Car = 2010 3.6l 304hp Camaro

The best way is to count the teeth on the ring gear and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Or you can count the number of turns of the pinion it takes to get one full turn of the ring gear.

For example, if we divide a ring gear with 41 teeth by a pinion gear with 10 teeth we find that the gear ratio is 4.10:1 (41/10 = 4.10).

Contact the seller, but that will probably not get you anywhere.

    Looks like you got punked.

no, the number of times the DS spins, in relation to one rotation of the wheel, is the gear ratio. So, based on what you're saying, you have 1.75 ratio gears.

I would just use a gear/rpm calculator and use HPtuners to make sure of the RPMS and then look it up.

From what I researched, if you're holding 1 wheel still you have to double the number. If the rear has a lsd. so that is 3.5 and it easily could have turn 1.80 or 1.85 so that would put it close to 3.73s

Unfortunately the person lives in CA.

The person claims to have the box labeled 4.10 for the new gears that went into it and he has a good rep for selling things. But the point to me is that I have spent over 600 bucks on something I didn't even want. Seems to me like i should some sort of refund.

then use two jackstands instead of one, and you'll be able to clearly see exactly what your gear ratio is

It was suppose to be newly rebuilt with a new lsd and 4.10s. Price was 450, cost 175 to ship so 625 total.

                        New LSD - 150
                        4.10 Gears - 150
                        Gear install - 500

To me it was cheaper than getting gears installed around here, cheapest place I could find is $500 for labor alone.

LOL what kind of mileage does that thing get?

As for what I woudl do... I would try and fight with the guy a little, nothing happens jsut say... Damnit that sucks, people suck, ohh well even getting ripped off a few times its still a thousand times cheaper to buy and sell used parts with people off message boards then dealing with new.

                              Cost of business.
