I just hope that Machida can defend it, unlike Evans and Griffin.

Rashad can fight pretty well. He made quite a bit of mistakes against Machida, and Machida is definately not the guy to make mistakes against...he exploits them for sure.

Machida's first defense of the belt is against Rampage Jackson.

Rampage is a beast. That will definately be one hell of a fight to see who wins.

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida

i agree with the one column that I saw on sherdog... Machida is going to rule the 205's for a looooong time... I mean, lets ignore the intangibles like Machida's crazy strike defense, rediculous quickness, and unusual style that makes him hard to train against.. lets look at the facts:

          - Not only is he undefeated, but HE HAS NEVER LOST A ROUND ON ANY CARD IN THE UFC!!!
          - wins by decision, TKO, or Submission (aka, not one dimensional)
          - has one of the highest strike efficiencies of any fighter in UFC history (percentage of strikes landed)
          - has one of the best strike defenses/ strikes landed in UFC history (percentage of opponents strikes not landed)

Look at the people he has beaten (UFC and otherwise):
          - Rashard Evens
          - Thiago Alves
          - Tito Ortiz
          - David Heath (who at that point was undefeated, 8-0)
          - B.J. Penn
          - Rich Franklin
          - Stephen Bonnar

205 is a loaded division... I give Machida one title defense before he fights the fight that everyone wants to see...

          Machida vs. Anderson Silva

Silva is going to destroy Griffin (I love to watch him fight, but Griffin vs. Silva!??! Someone in UFC doesn't like Griffin anymore.. probably the worst fight possible for him).. anyways... where was I.. oh yeah.. Silva wrecks Griffin, then is given his shot at the 205 belt, after Machida makes a title defense against Rampage. Rampage should put up a better fight than Evens, but how is he going to fair any better than Evens or even Ortiz? He's essentially a standup fighter who is disregarding his ground game (for some stupid reason), and those are the type of fighters that Machida just wrecks. I do think that Rampage could catch him with a strike, and maybe even cause him to lose his first round... but all in all (barring a forced title defense for Silva, or a complete miracle by Griffin), I see a griffin Silva fight in about 6-9 months.. and you best believe I'll be watching.

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida

actually... Here's a name of a fighter that would be an intersting matchup..

            Machida vs. Cung Le

Did anyone see the way that Cung Le took apart Frank Shamrock? He has kicks quicker than most people's jabs. Just an awesome display. Fight ended when Frank's wrist couldn't block any more kicks and broke.

And I know.. cung le has essentially no ground game, and i with Strikeforce (I believe). But he is 6-0 with 6 TKO's... give him a few marginal contender to warm him up and let his amazing striking take over..

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida

Well it seems that Machida's first title defense is still unannounced after the recent announcement of Rampage and Evans as the TUF 10 coaches.

I'm sure whoever wins a the end of the season between those two will have a title shot, and I'm sure Machida will still have it!

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida

Rampage will not be fighting Machida, he turned it down so he could fight Evans.

                Shogun is next for Machida.

Didn't Machida and Silva confirm that they won't fight, being friends and all?

Yep they refuse to fight. But I don't know, Dana White may be able to convince them one day.

Kinda like Tito and Rampage refuses to fight unless there's a lot of money involved.

and Rashad refuses to fight Jardine in the official Octagon. =)
