Also, I'd recommend that when you go through AIT, at the end they will offer you ASI's (additional skill identifier) and airborne school. Take both of them. They will help you get promoted when you're ready to become an NCO.
And congratulations on joining by the way, welcome to 1% of the US population. thank you for serving your country. :)

Not true at all, a lot of MOS's can be Rangers... ANd no, you do not NEED a previous combat MOS to become a ranger, BUT expect combat when you do become a ranger, at least if you're in a ranger batallion... A lot of people (mostly officers) who get to go to ranger school just go to regular units so the "ranger" tab is all for show to them.
when did u go to ranger school? im out now, have been for a few years, i think some things have changed!

i doubt they will man, before a friend of mine got out, about 2 years ago, he told me that some of the new guys were coming to the 82d without there jump wings, i think ur recruiter was more then likely blowing smoke up the bung hole, just to get u to sign!
haha now that def sounds like a recrutier lol. When i went to AIT they had us filling out paper work and if u wanted u could go to airbourne. Most kids didnt get to go. U pretty much have to have it in ur contract to get it. Id want air assault before airbourne tho

my recruiter is actually honest, i know like 3 people that he enlisted and they all told me he was the one to go to. he didnt say that i would get airborne, just that there may be an opportunity. oh well.
whats the difference between airborne and air assault?

I haven't gone in yet. I'm still clearing up some legal issues..... But I'm considering straying from the original 0331 to something more suitable for when I get out.

airborne, u get to jump from planes, & some lucky people get to jump from uh-60's(black hawks). i was suppose to jump from a black hawk once, but the jump got scrathed due to pres. bush coming down, & 9 40mm rounds were stolen/lost,
air assult, is basically rapelling from black hawks, & im not sure, but maybe a few other choppers. im not sure if its just straight up rapelling, or if they consider flying in & unloading from black hawks too.
i was just airborne, but i did get the oppurtunity to fly & unload a uh-60 twice, once in the states down at bragg, & once in iraq!
Airborne= a lot of running, jumping out of planes.
Air Assault= a LOT of ruck marching, rope knowledge (ie knots) and repelling out of helicopters as said above.
To the OP, more than likely as silverrs96 said, they will offer you airborne durring the latter half of your AIT. Just as he said, when I went through the drill sergeants asked who wanted airborne, and signed us up for it. But be weary, he gave us a choice of hometown recruiting, or airborne. Most people said "man F this, I wanna go home for hometown recruiting", which is basically 2 weeks off. He had said 1 or the other, but if you chose airborne without questioning it, he gave both of them to you. Just be sure you do everything you can while you're there, because it is very hard to do afterwards. And you got Relaxin' Jackson. You should have a nice easy basic training... heh

I just went to my recruiter on thursday. I am probably going to go back to school for a year and then enlist. He told me that if I got 18 more credits I would be going into basic at E3. That is only if I get my medical waiver for asthma though.
I am looking into going infantry and then trying to get into airborne school. I might not be able to do that because I have a bad knee and I don't know how it would hold up with the landings.
If I get cleared to enlist I will talk to a knee specialist to get his opinion on airborne lol

+1 on the warrant officer. also, if u have an associates degree, get ur commission, & when u get promoted to o-3, they will send u to finish up ur bachelors degree!
