I still get a 20% of at the dealership on parts and some free goodies, the guys still know me there where my Dad retired from. Also get a discount on labor too, not the $40 an hour I use to get but instead of $90 I get $60 if I need something I can't do.

Amen to that. NAPA has the stuff you need, at a price you can pay, and wont have to replace again in 2-4 weeks. Advance Auto is good for quick fixes but I typically don't get much reliability out of their parts....

And yeah... NAPA closes too early...

Autozone is ok, if you can get past all the ricer crap hanging all over the store.

No Orielys or PepBoys around here.

I use autozone for general maintanance, but for actual parts, I go to a local shop called American Camaro and Firebird.

                Napa & Carquest.

autozone is okay for the basic necessities...oil filter, motor oil, spark plugs.

i try and order online for better deals and order mainly gm parts such as ac delco.

For me it's usually between Autozone and O'Reilly, and it's O'Reilly pretty much hands down. I usually buy just minor maintenance and emergency fix type stuff, and the help at any O'Reilly store has been the best for decoding some of my more wild eyed ravings. If I know I need a ricey type ghetto fix, Autozone will have the best selection of pieces for cobbling together, but the staff there is a crapshoot, and I'm not likely to go in there unless I know exactly what I want. Same with NAPA, although NAPA doesn't have the attitude. I've had to leave a pile of random maintenance stuff and leave because they managed to piss me off at the last minute.

Re: the best car parts store?

We have an O'Reilly's, Autozone, two Advances, and Napa, all within 5 miles of eachother... I pretty much hate going to any of them because most of the time I have to wait for someone to get off the phone to help me out... When I worked at Sears auto and we needed parts pretty much everyone I worked with preferred Advance, they used to give me parts at cost bc they knew me from Sears, but I don't think anyone still works there from those days...

I go online (Rockauto/eBay) for everything but tune-up stuff...
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
                    Custom interior...

Re: the best car parts store?

Well from what I read here it all seems to come down to the local store...

                      For here;

NAPA: Has the same **** everyone else does and is WAAAAAYYYYYYYY over priced!

Carquest: Same as above, only they dont have anything in stock.

Advance: Good prices and good stock. Ppl just doing their job.

AZ: Pretty much same prices and stock as Advance, but its way easier to get stuff returned, the deals, the sales and friendly staff...

Oriellys + PBs: Never even seen them...

                      So I prefer AZ :D

Re: the best car parts store?

Carquest or NAPA. Most the people at Autozone don't know much about cars. Schucks (O'Reily's) has knowledgeable staff and good prices, but not as convenient. I'd say Autozone has the nicest stores, and better stock than Carquest, but my Carquest has a paint shop section and they have things that no one else has, so I generally go there.

                          Heres another point for NAPA

I had to price a caliper; at all places of course cuz Im cheap.

All places were $47~$52 while NAPA has the same exact part for $99!!!

O and that Advance doesnt even carry it, they have to buy it from someone else and then ship it to me... Barf

Nappa is cheaper on some stuff while higher on others, Accumulator at checker Autozone $75-85 at Nappa $35. Some other parts too I can't remember back. That was the biggest differnece I could find to compare. I always shop the three and Rockauto and Ebay if not in a rush.

Being an exparts salesman, I go to the one that has counter people that know what they are talking about, not one of those that has young punks that think that they know what they are doing. And one that has a lifetime warranty on stuff with nation wide parts exchange program.
