  • Obamacare yes or no?

Please don't make any comments, or justify any of your reasonings, or make any comments on anyone else's vote... I don't know how to create a poll so this is the best I could do...

Simple... yes or no... If you HAD to vote, and your only options were yes=pass obama's proposed healthcare... or no=do not pass Obama's proposed health care... how would you vote... again keep it to a simple yes or no... THANKS!!!

and sorry Canadians... I love Canada... travelled there many times, but please keep this to Americans only... there's another thread available for you to even further express your views... thank you for your understanding...

        Re: Obamacare yes or no?

        No to Obamacare.

        A. Quality of healthcare will suffer.

        B. Government programs inevitably cost many, many times more than expected.

        C. Government has zero incentive to lower costs; a government bureaucrasy has the opposite incentive - the larger the bureaucrasy, the better off the bureaucrats are who run that program.

        D. A government-run program disconnects the insurance premiums from the costs of providing the insurance benefits. In the short run, the government will lower premiums to convince people to join and to put private insurance out of business. In the long run, we all pay for the costs via higher taxes, higher inflation, higher unemployment and lower economic growth.

        E. Government trying to "hold down" premiums will encourage more people to use more healthcare with less regards to how much it costs (a rational economic choice). Thus, it does nothing to encourage people to use their healthcare dollars wisely. A massive bureaucrasy with all sorts of typically incredibly intricate rules will develop around this - encourage the insured and the providers to "game" the system to thier advantage. We expect people to be altruistic and use the system only to the extent it will help the country as a whole. That never works - "to each according to their needs, from each according to their abillities" is exactly what the Soviet Union tried and failed to make work, massively and destructively hurting countless people's lives.

        E. Proponents will point to millions of people curently "without insurance." Where do those persons currently get their healthcare? Mainly from free government propgrams and from the emergency rooms. Now, suppose you put a giant government program in place and put yourself in the shoes of a person who currently gets "ER healthcare":

Are you going to go register for Obamacare, make appointments, go across town to the designated Obamacare provider, fill out the Obamacare paperwork and do all the other things the Obamacare system requires you to do? Or are you simply going to go to the ER where you'll get what you need right now?

I'm not saying ER healthcare is good or desirable - but putting Obamacare in place will not change the simple fact that people will continue to make rational decisions. People will continue to choose what makes sense for them - and massive government programs can only try to twist people's lives to force them to make the types of choices politicians and bureaucrats deem to be the most desirable.

        F. The Congressionla Budget Office (CBO) is currently saying the proposed programs will cost much more than what the politicians are saying. CBO is saying we will not be able to afford the proposals. In response, the politicians are saying CBO is not cooperating and they, the politicians, are sure costs will be less.

Remember one thing - government agencies always vastly underestimate the costs of government programs. So if CBO is saying a proposed program is expensive, what logically will be the actual costs when the program is implemented?
        1. Exactly what CBO estimated.
        2. 1/3 or 1/2 of what CBO estimated, as the politicians are saying.
        3. 3, 5 or 10 times what CBO estimated

History and logic show us that answer 3 (3,5 or 10 times CBO estimate) is ALWAYS the answer.

        G. Consider this - Just about everyone here has been to whatever their state DMV or drivers license agency. You've seen the people there - it is everyone from all walks of life - many of those people are, well a bit creepy. Here in Florida, I've waited next to a guy who reeked of alcohol, urine and tobacco, was in front of another guy with swastikas tatooed on his forehead, listened to people telling their tales of having dozens of tickets in the past year but wanting to get their license reinstated, watched a nearly bilnd lady trying to pass the vision test and so on. In other words, it was like the cantina scene from Star Wars. I really would prefer not to be there.

With Obamacare, the Star Wars cantina scene will be what your visit to the doctor will be like.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

          Re: Obamacare yes or no?

I'm from Spain and socialized medicine there has created a back log for services. In theory, it sounds great, in reality, you have to wait weeks or more to be seen by a doctor unless it is an absolute emergency.

I think it would be taken advantage of here just like our welfare system is so until I clearly see how it is set up, NO.

          p.s. I can't read...
