He is right. I remember the last time I was in the ER that there were signs posted; that you cannot be denied medical care in a life threatening situation because of you inability to pay. Said that among other things...
I know they will give you help but for everyday meds that cost $1000 a month , which they will write you a script for the pharmacy. Then have to pay the pharmacy the money, which if you don't have they won't give you the pills. The hospital may give you a 3 day supply and then bill you up the @ss and then send you to collections, they own their own home so if they get a lein on there house because of medical debts , their har work for 40 years is down the drain because if they sell their house with a lien , the money goes to that party first and they would get whats left over. Also they can garnish wages also which they can add attorney fees up to $3000 on top of what you owe.

that's a really ****ty situation ssms, my uncle just recently, finally, received help from Social Security... another option for you to try, that might sound frugal... Write, or have your mom write your local congressman... I'm not sure of her exact situation, but if you feel that Social Security is dodging her, then this may help... it definitely helped my uncle who is only 37 but is unable to work due to his condition...
anyway... couldn't hurt

Eventhough I don't have an insurance myself and my wife's we're paying for it out of our pocket it just wouldn't be a good idea. We started off by paying $278 a month. In 5 years it went up to $326 and a year later it's $356. Co-payment used to be $10 and now it's $20. That's why I dropped my insurance. I haven't been to the doctor since Oct. 4th, 2004. That's when I severe my right achilles tendon from lifting weights. Since then I haven't been to the doctor because it's ridicules to be paying so much.
There is a better way:
Control the out of control healthcare spending. Everything is just too expensive due to the fact that medication is expensive, doctors are expensive, nurses make way too much, and to have those medical machines used on you is too expensive.
This is my thinking and why I think it will work:
I think health insurance should be like car insurance. It should become mandatory for everyone to have it and it should be affordable. My wife and I pay $78 a month to insure our SUV, Firebird, Fiero, and Mits. Truck. Neither one of us has ever gotten into an accident or been ticketed in the last 5 years. Imagine this if 300 million Americans were paying for their health insurance in the same manner then healthcare would be profitable and business like. There will be competition among health insurance providers.
Here my thing: If we are in perfect health and we make less doctor visit then I say we shouldn't pay anymore than $50 a month. If we make frequent doctor visit and often require medication then I say perhaps $95 a month, depending on the person's health issues ofcourse. If surgery is needed or hospitalization then we should pay for deductables.
That's my take. I think if healthcare cost is brought down and making it mandatory for all citizens to have health insurance then we would be OK. Instead of increasing taxes (so called taxing the less than 10% 100k earner and less than 5% 1 mil. earner) and watching our deficit spiral out of control.

Thor good concept but think about a couple earning minimum wage. in the state of Missouri min wage is 7.05/hr. thats only 14,664 before taxes a year per person. After the basics needs are met (housing, food, clothing) there is not much left. Even for a perfeclty healthy couple $50 a month my not be swingable. Then after 1 hospital visit it would jump up.
min wage is about to go up to 7.25, and I live in Ohio, and if I HAD to do it, it could be done on minimum wage... besides, no one should be on min wage their whole life... You show me someone who's on minimum wage at age 40, I'll show you the mistakes they made to get there, obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but you get the idea... its all about living within your means... if you make 14,000 a year, then you don't have the money to smoke cigs, drink beer, or eat out, or buy clothes from anywhere besides Goodwill... if you ARE doing any of those things while living on min wage, then you do not have my sympathy... sacrifices, living within your means...
Show me a healthcare bill that will allow for the people who work as hard as they can, but can't afford health insurance to obtain health insurance, without lowering the quality of care for the nearly 300 million other people in the U.S. it will have my vote... The current bill doesn't accomplish this... the 50 million uninsured number is misleading because it includes people who CAN afford health insurance, but choose to spend their money elsewhere, which should be their right... the real number is probably closer to 10-15 million... which is still a high number... reform is needed, the current bill will only cause more problems...

I am 27 years old an I have never worked for minimum wage...
We employed assloads of min wage employees. Like said before, min wage is for 2nd jobs and highschool/college students.
If your primary job is making min wage for any period past 6 months, there is something wrong.

There are atleast 15 million without jobs in the US. Count that many plus whoever is on minimum wage, which is already well above your probable number. 50 million is pretty close, don't make it sound less.
BTW, those 40 year olds doing minimum wage jobs are the employed people that lost everything due to the current economic struggles. There are people that made alot of money before, only to lose their job to take a one doing menial work....for minimum wage.
Again, find health care for 50 million people, not 10-15, or whatever imaginary number you think it may be. 50 million.

1. You don't pay rent. Your cost of living in that **** hole of a city is LOW. Trust me, I know a few people from there. Come to Chicago, and see how far $10 an hour gets you, let alone minimum wage.
2. You have a LARGE set of hypocritical balls on you. Fight for people to have the decision in their life, and them chastise them for making a decision you wouldn't have made? Hypocrite. And that is directly pointed to you T-Mill.
3. Im still waiting on your idea on how you would insure 50 million people.
