My wife and I are taking our family to Washington DC in a few weeks.
Obviously, we have plans to see many places.
What suggestions do you have? I'd especially appreciate any comments from people who live in that area.
PS - We're taking the AutoTrain up there and back - but we're bringing the minivan, not my Firebird.
My wife and I were there in 2007 and we had a wonderful time.
Set up a schedule ahead of time to see the white house, pentacon, and capitol. Unfortunately if you take your camera with you they won't let you in.
Also the national mall where the smithsonians are will take you guys a good day to see all of them. You might see KITT in one of their display. Really cool.
The national archives is truely one of the best. That's history right there. Lincoln Memorial, Washington monument and so on.
Arlington Cemetery will also take a good day to see also.
Be sure to do everything early because some or all of them I think close around 6pm. My wife and I rode in a tram that takes you to places and they have a guide that explains and interprets everyting. The tram is about $20.00 per person, but it was worth it. If we had a lot of money we would have done the whole thing by going to Pensylvania, New York, Conneticut and so on.
ahh it's ashame i didn't know this a few months back. i could have set up a behind the scenes tour of the white house. i have family who are in the secret service.
but deff do the white house. even the general tour is kool.
smithsonians are all freaking alsome.
take an extra 2 hours and drive up north to see me :)

what you like? There's the usual DC mall (Lincoln mem. to the capital bldg & all sorts of goddies 7 stuff inbetween). The Aquarium in Balty-more, Maryland Internat'l Raceway @ Buds Creek (about an hr drive from me)
I still have to pay for my apt thru 20 sep, so I could "lend it at a great price" perhaps?
I'm in Crystal City, about 5/7 mins from DC, and a 2min drive to Reagan airport

I say get a close look of the neighborhood outside of DC. Just refresh yourself in the idea that even a mile away from our nations capitol, there lies the denziens our society produces.
Hit them up for a crack rock too....
