  • Looking at an oddball car

Wouldn't you believe that I love rally too? Well, I found something that would rather tickle me pink. An old Celica Alltrac. He wants $2700 for it outright, and it looks pretty good. This may mean separation from my Camaro, but there's another reason for a cheaper car and this one inparticular. I'd use the remainder money to get my wife a car (her Cavalier is falling apart...), AND I'm a sucker for rally cars. Comments? Suggestions? Dont bash me over the head for it, it's either get in debt in a car, keep fixing the Cavalire and spend countless amounts of money to keep it roadworthy, or sell my car and get 2 cars with the money.

I don't see a problem with doing it. If you want it do it. I just bought an 87 300zx and I have always been a domestic fan. I must admit the late 80s Celica looks great.

Re: Looking at an oddball car

              Several reasons,

              1. Why get rid of a nice f-body for a old car, whether its forced or not... its still a old car.

              2. "oddball" cars have "oddball" parts... harder and probably more expensive to come by.
And an "old" car with all wheel drive is prone to have problems.. Save yourself a headache.

              3. I looked up a few alltrac celica's to get an idea of what your talking about, and I must say, they arent good looking whatsoever. Its like fuccking a fat chick, may be fun to ride but dont let your friends see it.

              4. We dont wanna have to label you as a ricer...

              But thats just my opinion...

If you get it, maybe all of us from CV6 will all pitch in and buy you a sweet 4 ft tall wing.

I reread the original post, and I see why you'd like to sell the car to get a car for you and the wife, but the way I see it is your trading junk for junk, Id be willing to bet it would nickle and dime you to death as well.

While most of your statements are true, I disagree with the ricer statement. I don't like that rice look at all, BUT I am into rally, which means WRC parts. The ST 185 looks fat, but not the ST 165 that I like.:slap: The 3S-GTE engine is shared with a multitude of Toyota platforms including the common MR2 turbo. The only oddball part would be the drivetrain. Not alot of Toyota's have that particular layout, but from what I've read, it's an easy build. I'm all about building clean cars, not junk. My '95 3.4 was clean, and so is my '00 3.8. Adding up all the nickles and dimes from my '00, I could've bought a brand new car with all the little repairs I've had to do and the new engine I put in 5 months after I bought the car (dex-cool and the previous owner didnt take care of it). I bought my '00 for $5500 and put at least $6000 in repairs/replacements in it. I'm not being mean as much as I'm just trying to prove a point. Insurance is cheaper, parts are surprisingly cheaper, and I know people who own/repair ST165s and ST185 Alltracs.

Re: Looking at an oddball car

3S-GTE are bullet proof engines and with a lot of potential. insurance for both my caamaros and the mr2turbo are about the same. that looks really clean. id say go for it if you really want it. but if it means selling the camaro, you got to think about how much you will really get out of if and how long it will take to sell it. I would suggest geting rid of the cav. if you need to put more work into it. if there are no problems with the camaro y sell it. you dont know exactly how much work you will be putting in to the alltrac if you do get it.
