Be sure to strip out every single part you can. The clunker trade-in is a fixed amount regardless of the condition of the car and it is in place of the regular trade-in value.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Has anyone seen the disclaimer on the cars.gov website... once you get into the process of applying for the rebate there is a step where once you click past it, your computer becomes "property of the U.S. government" and everything you do from then on will be accessable to the government, including if you use a broadband phone that goes through your modem... WTF?!?!
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
Custom interior...

Here's the link from the cars.gov website... I just don't understand the need for such a broad disclaimer that legally gives the federal government, as well as basically any other agency access to all data...

They put a "special sauce" (sodium silicate and water) in the engine, hold the engine at 2,000 RPM's (per directions) but we redline them to speed up the process. Supposed to lock up the motor within 7 minutes, but weve found it happens within 2 minutes.
After the engine is locked up, an tag is added to the motor, saying it has been destroyed due to the CARS program, and the vehicle is then sold to a junkyard.
The car can be parted out, all pieces of the car can be used and sold other than the drivetrain
what about people who cant afford to buy a new car, and buying a junkyard motor is their only option? selling it to a junkyard is cool. ruining the engine is stupid. at least sell the 100s of pound per car of scrap to a steel mill or something? re use it in new cars?

well the effort is supposed to have people turn in their low gas milage cars for more efficient ones. if they use that engine again, then they have accomplished nothing in the way of removing polluting cars.
