  • I'm back- Got another Z28 :) now i've got a problem too :(

Hey, just wanted to check in on my favorite forum, its been a while since i been in, and since i've owned an F-Body. WELL, im back and just to inform ya'll i got a 1997 Z28, LT1, 90,xxx. Silver with black hardtop, Car has been babied, its got the grey houndstooth interior, which is in perfect condition, power everything.

Now only problem is just pulled back into the work parking lot and look around i've got a few drip trails behind my car, i was thinkin oh no... come back out a few minutes later to get into my gym bag, and look under the car just out of curiosity, and theres a constant drip coming down from towards the middle of the engine bay, and toward the firewall on the passenger side its a small drip. I rolled the car back and its a mix when on my finger looks like water smels like anti freeze, i have a rough driveway so hopefully its just a line torn and not the waterpump. i don't have time to investigate it while i'm here.

Nice, what performance options does it have ? M6 / auto , gear ratio? How much was it? Just asking becuase most probably would of went with a 99+ LS1 (I would of put 98' but most get rid of them becuase of the defects of the first year and the 99+ put out alittle more stock I believe. Not saying your 97' was a bad choice Its all about what you want, sounds like it could be the water pump, does the 97' have Opti or was that done with in 95/96' years? Get some pics if you can? Have a mod list for it or will it remain stock? Good luck with it , 90,000 is really low in miles so there might be things start to go wrong after 13 years.
    08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine

its Automatic, GU2 code 2.73 gears :( first gear lock out. It does already have a flowmaster exhaust but the downside ... its got chevy bow tie tips, which im replacing with silverline Z tips, and it also has cold air intake. I like the 97 models because its still the 93-97 body style but ; has the 98-02 interior, its got the 30th logo on all the headrests also. Yes it has the hated Opti the worse thing ever invented. I'm not going with anything else performance wise i want to continue keeping it eased on. As far as appearance the onlything aftermarket are the clear corners, be expecting 5% tint, bergerpanel mod, VHT tailights, and sometime down the road black Z06's with a machined lip. I can have pictures up later today.

Your problem could be the coolant cross over/steam tube on the back of the heads.

and ditch the choke master. It sounds horrible and performs horrible too.

Sorry its taking me so long to get pictures up here, i've been really busy as of late, oh the radiator just had a bad hose, no biggie.

SilverRS96 - So i should ditch the flowmaster? what should i go with then for the best sound? oh i also found my set of Silverline Z tips, stainless steel buying them from a friend for 15 bucks lol not to shabby of a price.

all depending on how loud u want it. For any1 whos heard my LT1 they know its loud at ****. I have Pacesetter LTs ORY no cat to a SLP LM1. I dunno if ur gonna b running LTs or not but Magnaflows have a good sound and flow a **** ton better than choke master.

"I have Pacesetter LTs ORY no cat to a SLP LM1"

i'm taking this as Pacesetter Long Tubes, OffRoad Ypipe, !cat, and Loudmouth? yeah i'd say your pretty dang loud haha,

naw i'm just using my stock manifolds, ypipe, and pipes. I just want to have aftermarket muffler, and possibly gut my catalytic or just have it removed and replaced with a straight. So my best bet is magnaflow then right? how would it sound with the cat still on, or should i go ahead and do away with it?

Well i believe i'll start the searching for a magnaflow then, and i am getting played out on flowmasters, my maroon LT1 had flows, the orange LT1 car had them, now this one. So Magnaflows gonna be my new option then.

I don't really want to deal with putting headers on, cause like i've stated i'm not too worried bout going full out with performance or anything like that, this car is my DD

That interior is awesome, love the 30th anniversary logos. That last picture came out real good also.

Not sure if they fit, or if they came with the camaro (I think they did) but my firebird has the doors with the component speakers and those are the only door style I like. You should think about adding those in. They flow better with the interior and it doesn't have that random square speaker grill look.

                              Sick car either way.
