  • Ants!!!

ok so here is the deal. i live in an apt with three friends that we just moved into. now ive never had this problem untill i moved here. just about every morning when i leave to go to work there are ants on my car. and not just two or three but a good bit. there is a tree in front of my apt and i thought well thats got to be why but the thing is that both my buddies cars are parked next to mine and there is not a single trace of any ants on their cars. ive even parked farther down and its the same. now when i leave i go a couple miles to a co-workers house and car pool. when i come home from work there is not a single trace of them on my car. the same when i drive my car to work. when i get to work after a 30 minute drive they are still there. when work is through no where to be found. maybe a dead one here and there. ive checked all over my car and in my car for any kind of nests ( ive seen a few cadillacs with the same problem and they have nests in them) there is nothing. and they dont make it into the car either. from what i can gather there is something about my car they like and they get on it during the night and then when i leave and go to either my co-workers house or my work they either die or leave. has anybody here had this problem with their car by any chance. this is just anoying.

I think you've been pranked. Check for peanut butter or some kind of sticky sweet on or under the car somewhere. Ants dont just say "Hey, nice car! Can I ride?", there's something that interests them on it.

      Re: Ants!!!

Get a few of those "smoking insect bombs" you can buy at the store, put a few under the car near the engine bay or wherever and put a tarp over the car... If there is a nest it should kill them and hopefully solve your problem.

Take the car through a good car wash as well, one that washes your under carriage and if there is something the ants are liking on your car hopefully it will wash away and they will leave.

Could have something to do with a wax that you use?

Whenever I wax my car, the smell makes me just want to lick it.

X2 the wax I use on mine smells real good , my wife was surpirsed , thought I was going to stink up the garage again like with brake cleaner or gas smell when I work on it. You could always use some degreaser in the engine and underneath your car, I'm sure they wouldn't be attracted to to that. Also you might have rann over like a soda spot or candy in the road where someone through it out the window and its on your tires or splattered up under the under carriage. Just some suggestions. Good luck, with it.

Try spraying some pest spray around the area you usually park. That and definitely go through the car once more looking for spilled food, drink, nests, etc. Also make sure that no shrubs, brush, or limbs are coming in contact with the car when it's parked. That's how they usually find cars.

And you guys think your waxes smell good? I've got some spray on detail wax from one of the dealerships that smells like pink starbursts...

I'm leaning toward the wax as well. Meguiars Gold Class paste seems to attract bugs to my car. Not so much ants, but knats and other small flying bugs.

I have ants and spiders in and around my car. It's just the place I live in that's the problem.

But yeah, ants are attracted to certain car wax. Mine was when I used to use zymol. Ants would be all over my car.
