    How generous are Junkyards?

    I have a 88 K5 Full size Blazer... Backstory: This was originally my Brother-in-law's truck. He sold it to my uncle, who knows next to nothing about cars... It ran great for him and then he started having tranny problems. He had a guy he knew rebuild it for him, but he thinks the guy wanted the truck, bc he didn't fix the problem... So long story short, he gave it to me bc he didn't have the money/time to fix it, and I always loved it, and he figured I'd be able to fix it myself... so I dropped the tranny and rebuilt it, but then I got a new job and moved a half-hour away for about 2 years which is how long the Blazer sat outside in the same spot, and now there's lots of rust and the transmission is still sitting in the garage... so I'm getting rid of it...

    If anyone wants it, I'll be letting it go for pretty cheap... (needs LOTS of body work but is salvageable if you're willing)

    FINALLY to my question...

    I'm gonna sell it, and won't be able to get much out of it, but I don't want to sell it to someone for less than a junkyard will pay...

    How much do junkyards pay for whole cars? I haven't dealt much with junkyards so I'd have no idea what to expect.
    Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..

    well with all these cash for clunkers coming in, they arent gonna have much room, they might give you a hundred bucks, if that. they get the clunkers for like $150. youd make more putting it on a trailer to the scrap yard. if i was close id take it off your hands.

      That sucks, I always wanted a K5 - I just can't swing the bodywork & have a full garage.

        You'd be lucky to get $150 out of it.

        And as for C.F.C., they are giving 300-500 a car, depending on what it is.

          usually 50 to 100 bucks for any car/truck, then say you need to buy a part of some kind - 50 to 100 bucks for the part! - that's when you barter.....

            I've bought parts from junkyards, but never sold anything to them, so thanks for the info... I think I'm gonna try and sell it for $600 I guess, and see if I get any takers...

                Toss it on Craigslist for $1000, you'll get a ton of offers. A junkyard will only go about $100 for it.

                  how bad is it? pics if u can? i have 2 other k-5s and cold come pick it up i gotta see pics first before i drive to dayton

                    It's parked at my parent's house so I'll get pictures for when I get a chance to get over there...

                    The rust in the rear is pretty bad, the tailgate has all but rusted off. I made the mistake of elevating the front up on blocks to get the tranny out and then got a new job and moved 30mins away and it took me awhile to get around to rebuilding the tranny so its been sitting outside with the front elevated for about 2 years, so all the water ran to the back and destroyed it. The front is in great shape relative to its age, though, aside for the typical rust below the doors. The engine ran great last time it was started but that was before I removed the tranny. The removeable top is in awesome condition also... I'll get some pics up and you can see what you think. I'd like to get $600 out of it, just to recover my losses, but once the pics are up we can discuss price.


                    The transmission is not installed so it would need to be towed/trailered

                      Its got a TH350 right??? If so what would you sell the tranny for??? I know shipping would be a b****. I have a 3/4 ton that runs a TH350, but it needs rebuilt.

                          These tranny's are a dime a dozen, why you would want to pay out the @ss in shipping charges when you could go to the salvage yard and pick up 5 for the price your gonna pay to ship is beyond me...

                          350's and 700's are everywhere.
