Just fly by,

Do you think it would be worth trading in my '02 LS1 conv.camaro for one.

I really like my camaro, but having 2 sports cars just isn't practical, & i want something with a nicer interior, & i think the LS2 has alot of potential.

Please any opinions on how it compares to an f-body?

      thanks,
      phil

Well Night Rider. The GTO insurance is actually cheaper for me than an '02 WS6, so im guessing youd save money there. Plus GM's incentive will save you 3 grand off the top.

The build quality of the car and the interior seriously is so much nicer than the F-body's. Its more practical to haul people around I suppose. It is definitley more comfortable and easier on the back with long trips. Its even a consumer guide best buy and has high ratings in reliability, which I can't see how they could judge that already since this year wasn't out for too long, but hey, I'll take it.

I've looked up all kinds of reviews and the Mag's seem to like them. Even that British Top Gear show, who hates every American car especially the new 'Vette likes the GTO.

So knight, on that note, I'd say its definitley worth your time to go try a GTO so you can decide.

And GreenGlow, I dunno either. They are so temp dependant. The dyno numbers vary a lot so I've seen better. Ive also seen better 1/4 times than that. But who hasn't? Can't really judge every car off one drivers ability.

I wish I knew what was holding the car back, its the same engine and tranny out of the vette is it not?

I've seen a pic of the GTO w/o the wing, and it actually looks better w/it off. Try it & see.

As for same engien & tranny, well, they said the same thing about teh castrated crap they put in the f-body.... "same engien as vette". The holier thatn thou vete....

Yea, but the GTO supposedly makes the same numbers at the crank as the Vette does. It isn't supposed to be "castrated" like the F-body's that fell around 50 horse and torque short.

Well the stock exhaust and air filter box are two main things that choke the GTO. If you ever look underneath your car you will see that the exhaust has all kinds of crimps and bends and as a result does not flow very well. Plus the stock resonator is a power robber too. Also your car may not seem super fast at 1st but give it about 1000 miles or so and let the engine brake in. After about 1k she will really start to wake up. Many LS2 owners ahve been to the dyno after 1k miles and seen jumps of up to 20hp in there #s. As you are braking it in don't be easy on her ethier, get into the throttle as much as you can and don't stay at one speed for too long. The more you get on her the more she will show her wild side.

Actually I went over to LS1 tech and checked out the GTO section.....

It appears that many people are experiencing low dyno numbers and slow (if you can call high 13's slow) track times....

Somthing about the heat REALLY effects the GTO's performance....

You might want to go to LS1 tech and chech this out....

BTW....300RWHP would be a loss of 33.3 % through the drive train.....

No way they should be loosing that much....

The engine temp runs really high, and I haven't found out what to do about it yet. So right now my stock 97 bird can keep up with it I'll bet. :( I just started looking into the GTO forums and I see its a big problem for lots of people, wtf.

Way to read my posts Greenglow!

I've been sitting aside waiting for someone to find what the problem is, then I'll drop the money into it.

Either way, it has a really tough time spinning these little 245's unless you dump the clutch which kinda sucks too.

You gotta go to the track...sotp can be very mis leading...

Ive read of some that can hit 13.1....And then some that hit 14.1..

Some dyno 320 and some dyno 350....

Hopefully you got a strong one....

Eighter way the car looks very nice....Especialy the black...And the interior is probaly nicer than my vettes....

Nice car for the money IMHO....

Only thing that sucks when you have a nice car like that is nobody wants to race you...

They just no your gonna win.....

The average ricer is dreaming of adding a turbo and hitting a 13.9 with slicks....

HA HA HA....Our cars did that OR BETTER the day we took them home....

I just laugh when these integra R's role up and rev on me at the track.....

NE ways have fun with the american muscle...

98GREENGLOW, did you take in to consideration conditions when the vehicle was dyno'd and WHAT type of dyno they used? Some are less accurate or say less than others. IE: Mustang dynos are usually quite low in their numbers when compared to a dynojet. Also, high temps and high humidity HAVE to be taken in to consideration, among other things like elevation etc etc..

http://image32.webshots.com/33/8/58/...9cMSPqD_ph.jpg sure as heck doesnt look like 300rwhp to me.

If you want to talk about poor performance lets talk about your C5 vette with the LS6 "conversion" thats *still* in the 13s.

Thanks KBeezy. I don't feel so bad now. Although im not sure if the C6's have the same heat problem as the GTO's.

                            Naa thats kool....

                            Seriously....My tracks just slow...

My supercharged V6 camaro only ran 15.1 at 93 mph...

The record for the fastest stock Z06 at my track is only 12.7...

With my LS6 and an ram air intake Ive ran 12.9 at 108 mph off a 2.1 60 ft...

If I were to go buy DR's Id easily be posting mid 12's......

All that aside with the LS1 I dynoed 299 rwhp..

With the LS6 Ive dynoed 351 rwhp....

DANG KBEEZY...I ALWAYS SORTA LIKED YOU....

ANYWAY.....This isnt one of those my ride is better than your ride threads...

                            A stock C5 will woop a stock 04 goat...

                            Now a 05 Goat...Thats a total different story...

                            A c5 has 300 rwhp

                            A 04 goat has 340 rwhp...Advantage GOAT

                            A c5 weighs 3250 pounds

                            A 05 goat weighs 3700 pounds.....Advantage C5

It's a drivers race...They both are capable of hitting high 12's or low 13's with great drivers straight off the show room floor.....

                            NOW A V6 CAMARO BEATING A C5 OR A GOAT...PRICELESS

I was only trying to inform him of what Ive been reading on other foroums....

Personaly Id never buy a performance car it's first production year....

They have lots of problems....The C6 has been running VERY slow times because of a tourque management problem...

Most people cant do better than 13.1-13.3 with there mn6 C6....Even professionals...Those are times a stock C5 has no problem acheiving....

I bet that next year the tourque managment and heat soaking problems will be fixed.....

Keep writing I like this thread....But were all on the same side here.....

BTW...Kbeezy....That LS2 GTO dynoed on the same dynojet that I dynoed 351 rwhp on.....

                              300 rwhp is LS1 performance.....Not LS2....

But there are plenty of LS2 GTO's that are dynoing low 300's...

                              This is a problem.....The C6 is always dynoing 330 rwhp-345 rwhp...

The LS6 is always dynoing 340 rwhp-360 rwhp

The LS1 is always dynoing 285 rwhp - 305 rwhp

With the GTO some people are dynoing 345 rwhp and some are dynoing 300 rwhp...ALL on dyno jets...

It is a serious heat problem that many LS2 GTO owners are experiencing...

I wasnt trying to dis his car....GTO's are awesome...And honestly the GTO or Cobra would be a close second pick for me...

Anyway, I have been looking thru the forums, Ive seen 320 rwhp as the low, I haven't seen 300 yet.
