Need more info... is the distributor physically moving and causing the advance, or is it staying put? Is it advancing while sitting at idle or when you put revs into it? What about vacuum advance, is it hooked up, and if so which port on the manifold? Is it gradually increasing to 18* or is it all of a sudden jumping?
I've spent countless hours timing SBC's so I should be able to help with more info
