  • Pretty awesome winter beater

Just picked up a 98 XLT Ranger for a daily driver this winter so I can park my pride and joy

I love the truck so far. It's a 1-owner truck with 220k miles on the truck, most of the miles are highway miles. The truck has new plugs and wires and also they just changed the oil. This does NOT look (or drive) like a truck that has 220k miles on it. The previous owner said the oil has been changed every 3500 miles and the clutch was replaced 30k miles ago (has reciepts)

He also said he hasnt touched anything under the hood such as water pumps or power steering pumps. I'm pretty sure my power steering will be lucky to make it through the winter. It's ok though..no big deal.

It has the 4.0 and its a 5-speed. 4x4. No power locks or windows.

I got it for $3500 tax and all.

    Here are some pics...

dang, never knew the 4L was that beafy of an engine. My moms explorer has 52K on it and the tranny and 4wd has already gone out. Guess it's good to know we shouldn't have to worry about the engine. Looks nice especially for that many miles!

Yup...it was used as a work truck so thats why all the miles. The guy seriously took care of this thing though. It runs like a champ. I love it. I've already parked my Z28 and its still like 90 degrees out.

work truck + 220K miles + no major problems so far = expect some maintaince

Now that is just a generalization, if it has been kept up really well, you could be fine for a couple years but I would be prepared for something to need replacing in the future. Still a really clean truck and a decent deal nonetheless

Oh definately. I'm already planning on my power steering to go. Its very noisy but my dad says its a ford thing so I dont know.
