Now the big question is, Can steve turn this site around and make this the no. 1 v6 5th gen site? YES, absolutely. But I don't think he has any intentions to do it. He just want to keep things go just as is. Because he doesn't have financial need to run this site and he will NEVER sell this site to anyone because he has seen what has happen to some of the other sites.
I agree to keep it simple but not obsolete.
If it just keeps going as is, there will be no active member before too much longer. it will literally be a ghost town in cyber space.
ok, i'm one of the new guys here, just been a few months, but my friend i bought the car from told me about ya'll & complimented on the helpful people & the distinct lack of hostility & the absence of gratitous vulgarity, & i've gotta say i have been blown away by the super cool people & the knowkedge you all have & are willing to share & help one another, above & beyond the call of duty so to speak, very refreshing in the world we live in today, i lack computer skills to help run a web site, but i am on here enjoying, reading, posting & asking/giving advice where i can, so i really hope this site does not go away, its the first place i go...actually, it's the ONLY place i go for advice/help with my camaro, & with that being said, thank you all who have been so very cool to us new guys/gals & making us feel welcome! ...even though ya'll probally get real tired of answering the same ol' questions over & over again-lol!
For one, either update the site regularly (takes maybe 10 min at max), or hand it over to someone who has the time and the willingness. For two, I might have the answer as to why we are seeing so little new members; each member has to be admin approved to prevent spam (understandably), BUT it took me 2 months for my account to be authenticated. This is inexcusable. It should take a day or two at the most. This place is dying a slow death because of the little things that go unanswered, unupdated, and undermanaged. Each time I logon, I should see somewhere around a page or two of new posts in the lounge section, but I'm not seeing but 4 or 5 new posts. Disappointing. Also, some of us payed $10 for updates and hopefully keeping this site looking the best it could, but so far all I got was a signature and an avatar with a little graphic that says "supporting member". That being said, dont just read this, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
I ate a bowl of fail this morning.

I used to go buck wild on this site with questions and helping other people out. For the last year or so it seems either everyone is a total noob or a total douchebag. Not many serious discussions are being had and the most prominent place for posting is the lounge. I've taken my 3.4 project over to other sites now that have more experienced members who do more than just play games in the lounge, and it's been very rewarding. This place was great for me while i was new to all of this, but now there is noting substantial to really keep me here. I know lots of you guys are like that as well.

When the hell did that happen? There are other ways to fight off spam and bots. I do agree that process is most effective. But unfortunately at the cost of many potential new members...
This site is STILL one of my favorite site because of the simplicity. It's very simply, easy to navigate and filled with content. I do not like site filled with crazy flash or tons of graphics etc. I run the WORLD'S largest 370Z forum The370z.com but a lot of inspiration was from this site. I kept my site easy and simple. If someone comes to me and says if a forum tooks too simple, it won't go anywhere. WRONG! simpler the forum, more people will sign up and be a part of it. My forum is up only about 11 months and we have already crossed 11, 500 members.

This is just my .02 cents. I'm not sure how correct I am.

I agree that simplicity is the key. It's one of my favorite things about this forum. I also don't like a forum that is too flashy or has ads that slow down loadtime. I just think that some updating and cleaning up would help the broken links or outdated info. Nothing huge, even the smallest changes can make the biggest difference. Appointing new current mods to take over where those that have left could make quite a difference too.

I can't speak for Steve but after staying here for quite a long time, I have studied him. Steve has a very good career and quite active with some motorcycle and 4x4 activity. This forum is just a small hobby of his. He has no intention of making any money. He runs this site from his own pocket (with small help from supporting membership). I think maybe someone has a CLUE?
CamaroV6.com (Steve) and FirebirdV6.com (me) are just hobbies for us. This is not a business. It started with Stefan and I getting PO enough with having only one forum on Z28.com to start our own site - which did NOT have a messageboard - then Steve joined us and we got a messageboard. I later became the sole owner of FirebirdV6.com.
The messageboard is Steve's - it's on his site if you look closely. The Tech info is on my site.
For those who have been around for a long time, remember Steve already did a major site change - and got *****ed out for it. "I don't like this, why don't you change that". I sure wouldn't waste my time doing it again!
As for the 5th Gen? This was and still is a 4th Gen site. My Tech site will never have it, unless something can be used on a 4th Gen.
Many of you have no idea what little info V6 owners had years ago. We are the ORIGINAL site. It is what it is - deal with it.
Oh, but if you want to buy it? I will take $100,000 cash. :)
actually there is someone right now swapping a 3.6 DI motor into a 4th gen.
and im fully aware that the message board itself is steves thing. i think by not by not making a bigger push to appeal to 5th gens that it would be a huge mistake for so many reasons.
the people who pissed and moaned are the ones who wound up starting thier own site up at the same time anyways so thier opinions were moot anyhow. but some of them did have good points and ideas (especially updating our banner). also, with the things people wanted changed, they dont take that long to change! changing a few colors and adding a banner would take 10 minutes to change the color scheme and the banner all you need is someone willing to do one up (which we've had numerous threads on before here)
its not like we're asking for a kidney, we just want things updated and a few small additions. we've heard forever that there will be more things added and its been so long since the last thing was that i cant even remember what it was.

The whole problem with that Robert is that ORIGINAL doesn't carry with anyone anymore. We wanted to have the best of the best when it came to the V6 Fbody world, and we don't have that anymore. We wanted to have a place that offered the opinions and facts of those on the front line of our little community. We wanted admins who are still VERY active in this community. Look, some of the changes people are *****ing about in this thread are stupid, I'll give you that. New skins, advertising, pointless and meaningless crap. But things like the Fbody of the Month, new updated tech sheets, things like that, are what keep this community moving. Your site has not seen any major upgrades in......since inception? And I know CV6.com hasn't seen one in 3+ years. The biggest thing to start with would be just having ACTIVE admins, people who know everyone, know the cars, know whats going on in this world. I mean, I can't even understand the logic in not doing something about the 5th gen info? I simply don't get it.
Can we atleast start with a little more activity from you both? I mean ****, post once in a while about something, try to get more involved. Delve into some of our conversations once in a while, are you too busy for that? Simply being SEEN is leaps and bounds more than what we have now.
I know you aren't going to add 5th gen info on your site, thats fine. But I know that these two sites are linked together, would Steve or you be opposed to linking up with a 5th gen V6 tech site unlike yours if there was one?
Eh, this place has needed a facelift and a mod overhaul for a long time. Wes, bibber (and a few others) have tried many times to offer help but to no avail. I dont foresee anything changing or being updated.
BTW, whatever to the other site that spawned a year or so ago? Fbodyv6.net or something?

v6f-body.com now. The site is slowly expanding, but I think the main problem over there is that it doesn't come up so easily in google searches and the like. It just doesn't have the same exposure this site does, and so it isn't expanding as it should. This site has the advantage of being the first result in many searches but falls behind in other things. People come here, look around a bit, and ultimately decide to join the other site being the second result and it looks more updated and active.
how this sound: let the supermods or designated peep(s) update the site work day to day ops. they take responibility for site management & no big changes w/o prior approval from site owners.
just a thought

is it honestly really that hard to just give some of our head members (most contributing/most knowledgeable/members been on the forum longest), give them higher admin positions so these changes can take place? I mean Ive got no problem with Robert and Steve still owning the site, but come on....some of these guys on the forum have over like 3,000 posts and are geniuses with their fbodies, give them some power on the forum to make just subtle changes and lets make Cv6/Fv6 a ton better. The Fbody of the month for example, just promote a new person to taking charge of it and thats it, theres an update and we can get that section going again.
