Problem Updaing Profile

I am attempting to update my email address as the current displayed address is no longer valid... however, I keep getting this error when I try to update it:

"Someone else has already registered with that email address. Please try again. Use your back button." - Which is ipossible!

I never even had this address when I signed up for my account here. Is there a Moderator who can remove this address from whatever database its in so I can update my profile?

a friend I referred here got the same error msg when he tried to register.......
