I know I'm a new guy, so take this for what it's worth.

Have you guys ever thought of having a spot on the forums to show who is currently on each board?

Because if someone post a question and they see alot of people in there.....it seems to me that they would hang around a little longer to see if anyone has any possible solutions. Likewise to any topic they post.

A lot of boards have it, this one had it when the board had a software upgrade. After a few days, the admins decided it was killing the server so it was removed.
